Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Rogers.
Hi Renee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had one goal in life – to make a positive impact on the world around me. I accomplished this goal by teaching in the Dawson County School System for 33 years. I was honored to be named Teacher of the Year in 1997 and again in 2018. I served as the Dawson County Teacher of the Year from 2019 – 2022. During my time in the classroom, I always strove to make each classroom as warm and welcoming as possible.
A large part of this was accomplished by decorating in a manner that gave a welcoming feel to the 4 block walls of the classroom. I have always loved decorating and used this hobby in my classroom as well as in local churches. I retired from full-time teaching in June of 2022. It was at this point that I decided to make my hobby of designing silk floral arrangements into a business. I have experience with church decorations, weddings, funerals, home decor, school functions, etc. We have very few florists in our area and none that specialize in silk arrangements. I began the Blossoms of Grace florist in October of 2022.
With referrals from family, friends, neighbors, and local churches, the dream of owning a self-supporting florist has become a reality. My husband, Chad, and I offer a unique service to our customers. Many families have loved ones whose gravesites have been somewhat neglected due to the lack of time in their busy schedules. We offer the unique service of placing flowers on the gravesites regularly, cleaning around the site, and then sending our customers pictures of the final product. This service is most often used by people who live out of state, the elderly, and businessmen and women.
We also offer seasonal floral services to local churches. We place arrangements in the churches on a rotating basis to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the members and visitors. Through Blossoms of Grace, I continue to strive to make a positive impact on the community around me.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Beginning Blossoms of Grace florist has been a way for me to continue to give back to my community. No business begins or operates without a few obstacles and a lot of hard work.
One of the biggest challenges was wading through all the paperwork required to start a business. I am blessed to have had family members with business experience who guided me through deep waters and continue to offer support and advice.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create unique silk flower arrangements. I strive to give my customers not only what they have ordered, but also something that they will be proud of. My goal is to always give my customers a “wow moment” when they see the finished product and compare the final results to arrangements of the same price range as other florists.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I am a country girl who dislikes the city. I have had the God Given privilege of growing up and living in rural North Georgia. The closer I get to the city, the more my anxiety increases. We live in Dawsonville; GA and I HATE all the changes that are taking place. The sooner we can relocate to a more rural area, the better.
