Meet Jaymar Jackson

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jaymar Jackson.

Jaymar Jackson

Hi Jaymar, we are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am Jaymar Jackson, I am 32, and I am the Author of Celestial Elementals. I am originally a tech guy. I have worked for two big tech companies, but I am a huge nerd at heart.

Yugioh, Power Rangers, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Kill la Kill, Demon Slayer, the list goes on and on. One day, I had the idea for a black boy in a Nike tech ninja outfit, fighting a demon, and from there, Celestial Elementals was born.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am self-publisher, website developer, social media coordinator, audiobook narrator, voice actor, and editor, so that in itself is already a whirlwind. I remember an agent telling me I needed the book to be longer. I felt like what I had written was enough for the first book of the series to be set in Atlanta, so I just threw caution to the wind and decided to self-publish.

I have full creative control, but I have to make sure it’s able to be purchased on the platforms and editing. Hiring people to design the characters (Man, that was a doozy, lol), hiring someone to create the cover, creating tweets, creating visuals, creating ads. Its all been a challenge, but I’m extremely thankful for what I have learned on this rough ROUGH road.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I enjoy world-building and story crafting using a lot of problems I see in the real world and translating it through my writing.

Celestial Elementals is about six black young adults chosen to be the next set of warriors in a Millennia old war for the balance of good and evil. They must band together to save the universe.

I am proud of my imagination I think it’s allowed me to create something that will hopefully change lives, change how some people think and encourage some to fight for what they believe in and the things they love.

What sets me apart from others is the multiple aspects I am weaving into my writing. I see a lot of discourse from social media online, and I see a lot of my people fighting, arguing, and bickering over things and issues that don’t matter I wanted to do something that says, “What happens when we stop fighting and start working together for a common goal?”

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
I hope that the first book just takes off and up into the rafters, it becomes a NYT Best seller and that more and more people pick it up, enjoy it and just come to love it as much as I do. I would love for people to read it that they were entertained, that it made them think differently, that it made them feel seen.

I would love to see it on the big screen and get people back in the theater for a community experience and bringing people together. I would smile ear to ear to see that.
