Daily Inspiration: Meet Giovanni Porter

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Giovanni Porter.

Giovanni Porter

Hi Giovanni, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey in music back in 2017 when I released my debut single — “Fading”. In 2018, I released my debut LP — “Water.” It was inspired by a true story of a heartbreak I experienced when I was 19.

To this day, that album is very personal to me and I’ve evolved so much as an artist since then. As of 2024, I have released seven studio projects and I’m about to release my eighth studio project — “Soft Boy Era”. This new era is my best body of work to date and I can’t wait to share this album with the world very soon.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like the journey for me has been very challenging, but also very rewarding. I went through a lot of personal obstacles in my life that at times, I didn’t think I would overcome. Specifically, being a gay black male and considering myself the black sheep of my family has molded me into who I am today.

I’m thankful for the tough love I experienced growing up as well because it taught me so much. Music was always an outlet for me to escape and it’s been so therapeutic. It’s my safe space where I’m able to be vulnerable and in my own world.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an indie R&B music artist who is passionate about the arts. I’m most proud of being able to be relatable to people through my music and doing what I love.

What sets me apart from others is my drive and ability to be different. I’ve never tried to fit in with the crowd, and I have consistently raised the bar when it comes to being creative.

What were you like growing up?
I was the kid who would go outside and play with my friends, but also still, in a sense, be to myself — very silly and outgoing, but also shy and reserved. Anything pertaining to the arts was what I gravitated towards, so I knew from an early age that I was going to always do something with it.
