Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jason Johnson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started in my sophomore year of high school. All my friends had jobs, and I felt that I needed one as well. Eventually, when I did get a job working at a local subway, I just knew it wasn’t meant for me. I just felt as if I was putting so much time and energy into the job, and I would return home so tired.
So one day at school a close friend of mine decided that we would start our own business, I felt that it was a great idea because I am a very creative person, and I would much rather put all my time and energy into my own business. So that same night we came up with a business name and got an LLC so there was no backing out after that.
We decided to release our first drop in October, and it seemed as if nobody liked it because we weren’t getting any sales at all, so I decided to do more research on it, and I eventually found out that we needed content. When I began posting content every day on my social media, the sales started to skyrocket, and we were doing great!! But little did I know that was just the beginning of my content career!!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been many struggles I had to overcome to get to where I am today. I remember it was a time when I was stuck at 200 subscribers for 3 months, I later found out that it was only because I didn’t understand the algorithm.
So I decided to do some research and network with people who have more of a following than me so I could understand how to overcome this obstacle that was standing in my way, Which I did eventually learn. Now, it takes me about seven days to get 200 subscribers on my YouTube channel!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Certified Apparel is a teen-run clothing brand based here in Atlanta, Georgia. We specialize in making streetwear clothes, which is a big thing here. Something that sets us apart from others is that we are not just a brand, in the future we want to open up our own clothing store/content studio here in Atlanta Georgia. CIn the content Creating side of it: something that sets me apart from others is that I specialize in making short-form content.
I post about ten times a day on my YouTube shorts and that’s something most people don’t do. I am most proud of how well my brand has been doing in the last few days. Thanks to TikTok and all my other social media platforms. We have had at least 150 orders in the last 30 days, which is great!! I’m also proud to say that I surpassed my goal of 2000 subscribers on YouTube!!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One lesson that I learned from being in the Social Media/Clothing brand industry is that you have to overcome the fear of putting yourself out there.
If you don’t put yourself out there, most likely, you won’t do as well, and I had to learn that the hard way. I would be shy at every popup shop and event we had, and the sales would reflect that!! You have to overcome that shyness and anxiety and just put yourself out there!
