Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriella “Guitar Gabby” Logan.
Hi Gabriella, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started playing the guitar in middle school. I taught myself how to play by listening to songs and artists that resonated with me. Once I got to college (Spelman College), I began learning the history and origins of genres like rock. country, blues, and more, I realized I finally had someone to look up to, study, and understand. I appreciate the women who came before me.
In college, I began playing guitar for Diamond from Crime Mom. I helped to start and would eventually manage the band for her which simultaneously became the ” The TxLips Band.” We did many cool things like tour with the Indigo Girls, headline the Seattle and Chicago Pride Festivals, play 3 AfroPunk Festivals, and more.
After undergrad, I went to Law School. Much of my career has been in entertainment, but the other portion is steeply rooted in Sustainability. I wanted to merge the two industries in a way that made sense to me. This realization helped me continue expanding Guitar Gabby & The TxLips Band, an international entity that triples as a Black female & gender-expansive rock collective, a strategy academy, and a consulting firm. With over 35 musicians in the “TxLips Gang,” we challenge the boundaries and expand people’s perspectives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No not at all. The challenges of an entrepreneur are nuanced and unique to individual experiences. Learning to establish boundaries as a manager, friend, and lawyer can be difficult. Learning to be alone even in a room and industry of people is challenging, but I am thankful for the experiences that helped craft me into the confident person I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I enjoy using my creative approach to build a strategy for the long haul. I have always been a creative person in spaces that did not fully understand how to work with me. I used to let this be my downfall, but eventually realized there is more power in understanding your perspective and how to fluidly change it through life’s circumstances.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I am thankful for God blessing me with the gift of perspective. I believe much of my business’s success is because of the lessons and situations God put me in and taught me how to get out of. I am thankful for the hard journey that has given me bruises, but never broke me.
