Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Reid.
Hi Omar, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
As a writer, director, and producer with a background in acting, the US Air Force, and a passion for storytelling, my journey has been one of diverse experiences and creative exploration. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, and later settling in the United States, I’ve always been drawn to narratives that reflect the complexities of identity, transformation, and the human condition.
My film “How to Make a Werewolf” is a manifestation of this journey, blending my experiences as a filmmaker, author, and musician into a unique cinematic experience. Drawing inspiration from my independent limited web series “The Brother’s Keeper” and my published works such as “Silencia the Mute Assassin,” I’ve crafted a narrative that delves into the depths of human nature and the allure of the supernatural.
The protagonist’s journey in “How to Make a Werewolf” mirrors my own exploration of identity and transformation. Through the character’s struggles and triumphs, I aim to explore themes of power, control, and the consequences of our choices. As someone who has navigated different roles and identities in life, I’m fascinated by the idea of transformation and the blurred lines between human and beast.
In my spare time, I’ve also explored the realm of music under the artist name Chenna (Chénna), infusing my songs with the same depth and emotion found in my films. This multidimensional approach to storytelling allows me to engage with audiences on multiple levels, creating a rich tapestry of experiences that resonate long after the credits roll.
Through “How to Make a Werewolf,” I invite viewers to embark on a journey of self-discovery and introspection, challenging them to confront their own inner demons and embrace the beast within. With each project, I strive to push the boundaries of storytelling and inspire others to embrace their own creativity and individuality.
As I continue to evolve as an artist, I remain committed to creating compelling content that sparks conversation, ignites imagination, and leaves a lasting impact on audiences around the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t been entirely smooth, as with any ambitious project. One of the biggest hurdles I’ve faced is the challenge of financing and assembling a dependable team. Film production is inherently costly, and as a newcomer in the industry, proving oneself worthy of investment can be an uphill battle. Securing funding and finding individuals who share your vision and commitment can be a daunting task.
Moreover, trusting others with sensitive intellectual property poses its own set of challenges. While collaboration is essential in filmmaking, there’s always a risk of confidential information being mishandled or exploited. Building a team that respects the integrity of the project and maintains confidentiality is crucial, but it’s not always easy to find individuals who align with these principles.
Despite these challenges, I’ve remained determined to overcome obstacles and bring my vision to life. Each setback has served as a learning opportunity, reinforcing the importance of resilience and resourcefulness in the face of adversity. Through perseverance and strategic planning, I’ve been able to navigate these challenges and continue moving forward with confidence in my creative vision.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear many hats in the realm of entertainment, but at my core, I am a storyteller. Whether it’s through film, literature, or music, my passion lies in crafting narratives that captivate audiences and evoke emotion. As an actor, director, and producer, I specialize in bringing these stories to life on the screen, blending my diverse talents to create compelling and thought-provoking content.
I am known for my ability to infuse my work with depth, authenticity, and a unique perspective. From my independent limited web series “The Brother’s Keeper” to my published novel “Silencia the Mute Assassin,” each project reflects my commitment to pushing the boundaries of storytelling and exploring themes that resonate with audiences on a profound level.
What I am most proud of is my ability to juggle multiple creative endeavors while maintaining a high standard of quality and integrity in my work. Whether it’s directing a film, penning a novel, or producing music under my artist name Chenna (Chénna), I approach each project with passion, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
What sets me apart from others is my eclectic background and multidimensional approach to storytelling. Drawing inspiration from my experiences in the military, my Jamaican heritage, and my diverse interests, I bring a unique perspective to my work that sets me apart from the crowd.
I am constantly challenging myself to explore new creative avenues and push the boundaries of my craft, ensuring that each project I undertake leaves a lasting impact on audiences and stands as a testament to my artistic vision.
