Today, we’d like to introduce you to Erica Holcomb.
Hi Erica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m from a small town – Little Rock, Arkansas. I have always had a passion for hair and fashion. So did everyone in my family, especially my mom and grandmother – they both always had heads full of beautiful hair and a sense of fashion that was echeloned ahead – they always looked “put together”.
My grandmother instilled that in me. She always wanted me to look my best – to be the best representation of myself AND her! I have always taken pride in what I wear. As I grew older, I began to use my appearance as an expression of my personal style. I’m a subtle rebel in a lot of ways and I started to use my hair and clothes to represent that. When the outside matches what I’m feeling on the inside, I feel powerful, confident, and free. That’s when I’m my best self.
I came to Atlanta to go to college – Agnes Scott! My family wanted me to study Economics and get a “good job!” I did that, but in recent years, I’ve begun to nourish the more creative side of myself. I’m an influencer, and content creator, and I take on interior and event styling projects as often as I can. I am an aesthetic enthusiast, so I dabble in a little of everything that feeds that hunger…
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nobody’s road is smooth. I came to Atlanta for college in 2001. Born and raised in Arkansas, but Atlanta grew me up. That is my favorite phrase. When I came to ATL, I was exposed to many different styles and people unafraid to live out loud. This is where I found my personal style and developed a passion for all things aesthetic. My fashion started to evolve… I love a well-tailored suit but I also love leather, Cuban chains, and Jodeci boots.
I was told to study economics, and I did that. But I love art, interior design, and fashion and changing my hair every 2 weeks. I thought going into “business or corporate America” meant I had to be stiff and conservative. In ATL, I learned I could do both. I could break the rules – my style can be my own while doing the corporate thing.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the root of it, I want to help others. I want to inspire and motivate others to live out the desires of their hearts. Like I said before, I have a corporate job. By day, I’m an HR Business Partner for a Financial Services company. But recently, I’ve grown into my passion… I was afraid for a long time, but I officially consider myself an influencer and content creator, and recently I’ve set my heart out to start vlogging.
My journey began on IG – I started my public page and began sharing my life – everything…. hair, fashion, fitness, weight loss, travel, interior design – ALL OF IT. People began to message me about how I motivate. Someone told me that I motivate them to get up and exercise when I post my daily workout stories. Or people asking questions about the best restaurant for date night. Or people tell me that they replicate my hairstyles and that I encourage them to be brave enough to do a big chop or undercut.
All of those messages and comments drive me. I love sharing my world, all the things I love, and stuff that makes my life easier…. Knowing that I helped any person be better, do better, achieve a goal, or be courageous brings me joy! It also pushes me to continue to live my life out loud and continue to share my life and projects.
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Be open! Don’t be afraid to reach out to people and ask simple questions. Most people don’t mind sharing their stories and insights. And don’t be hesitant to reach out to folks with don’t look like you or have all the same interests as you.
