Life & Work with Alyx Libby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyx Libby.

Alyx Libby

Hi Alyx, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started standup comedy in Atlanta in 2018. I was lucky enough to work with Joe Pettis of 1Up Comedy early on and hosted many of his shows, including Underwear Comedy Party, which I eventually came to produce (along with other shows at various venues around the city). Being an actor as well, I brought my camera with me to tape sets and fell into event photography as well. There are so many aspects of the entertainment industry that I wish I had more time to commit to, but performing is my number one.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
HAHAHA no. There are ups and downs even now, seven years in. Struggles, hmm… self-confidence depending on how a set goes and who’s there to see it. I’m currently resident at Star Community Bar and have been putting more pressure on myself than probably is needed, just because I want to do well week after week and don’t always have the time to work on as much new material as I’d like because my day job can be pretty demanding – which reminds me, another constant struggle has been time versus money.

I’ve tried working at restaurants, offices, full-time, part-time, and now mostly remote so that I can travel more to get my name out there. And the struggle with that is that I don’t feel like my presence in Atlanta is always known to get stage time while I’m home. So… balance is what I’m always struggling with.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve already touched on what I do most; comedy, acting, and photography. I am proud of all I’ve accomplished so far, booking various commercials and TV shows, getting into prestigious comedy festivals and clubs, and becoming published as a photographer. I have been too busy trying to do it all to sit back and think about what sets me apart from others… work ethic and drive. I work too hard, probably.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Besides being hard working (thank you, parents!)… professionalism! I try to learn best practices from those above me. I have been complimented on my emails multiple times haha. Also, I would love to be more successful so please follow me on Instagram and TikTok!
