Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Venus.
Nikki, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in fashion with an online women’s boutique which inspired my passion for styling. My passion expanded when I was asked to put together outfits for an event based on pieces from my boutique. The feedback was phenomenal and most importantly, it gave me the reassurance and confidence that other women could enjoy and appreciate my style.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road so far has its moments of trepidation and exhilaration. I previously enjoyed a successful career in corporate America, but I came to the conclusion that I would never feel as fulfilled as I do with fashion. So, when I decided to step away from the corporate life, the uncertainty of success was difficult at times since I pride myself on having a plan. And, I had one. And throughout the beginning, as difficult as it was with not seeing overnight success, reading stories of other wildly successful women, and tireless hours of work, I stuck with my plan. My number one suggestion to other women starting out is to take your time and do the research. It’ll save you so much time and effort by doing your due diligence up front. Have a clear direction on what you want to do and don’t compare yourself to anyone else.
What should we know about Nikki Venus & Company? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I pride myself on helping women create new looks with their existing wardrobe. I help them figure out the gaps missing in their wardrobe and start adding those garments that deserve a spot in their closet. It starts with having a well detoxed and organized closet. Guiding my clients on what to keep, donate and consign so they can make sure they only have room for pieces that they specifically need at a certain time.
I focus on teaching women how to be selective on what to add to their wardrobe. Putting more effort into selecting the right pieces that will keep your closet clutter free. It’s all about creating a CHIC.STYLISH.YOU and being able to “Shop Your Closet” effortlessly.
I’m most proud that I’ve been able to stay true to myself while building my brand. As a style coach and closet curator, you are immediately the face of your brand. And with so much variety in choices and flavors in style, I take a lot of pride in that I’m able to display my big hair or bright red lipstick and really feel personal with other women.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I personally have not come across too many barriers in my industry. I try to collaborate with other like-minded women in my field to help one another out.
