Khalua Kinard

Hi Khalua, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Collagen stops being produced in the body at 26 so I wanted to learn how to freeze my face so I went to AVEDA to get my aesthetic license at 25. I started my career in a luxury hair salon and spa. There I met very elite Atlanteans and gained the trust of very notable people who gave me recommendations for moving to a hotel spa.

At the time it was the mansion on Peachtree and I worked in that building for 13 years it changed names 2 more times mandarin oriental and then Waldorf Astoria. While working at the hotel I worked with very luxurious brands and had extensive training.

In 2020, the pandemic reshaped the world, leading to a decline in hotel visits. In response to the demand from my clients, I transformed my spa room at home into The Suburban Oasis. Establishing exclusive partnerships with luxury brands such as Future 5 Elements, Pietro Simone, Exquisite Face&Body, and Herbal Face Food, I have curated a unique spa experience unparalleled in Georgia. Nowhere else in the state can you indulge in a facial utilizing these exceptional product ranges.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Striving for a fair wage has been a persistent challenge throughout my 13 years working at the hotel. The disparity between what I earned and the hotel’s profits, where they retained a large percentage of the income, made it difficult to make significant progress.

Despite the initial struggle, I maintained confidence in my ability to provide for my family based on my own reputation. The positive reviews and support I have received have solidified this belief and brought a sense of validation.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Facial Spa Owner & Aesthetician. The aspect of my career that I take most pride in is my consistent, dedicated training. I make sure to keep myself updated with every new development in techniques and trends. Rather than seeing other aestheticians as competition, I take pride in my network which includes some of the best therapists worldwide. Together, we grow by sharing knowledge and insights with each other.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
