Meet Kesha JonTae of The Millennial Taxpert

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kesha JonTae.

Kesha JonTae

Hi Kesha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I fell in love with taxation in 2007. I was an undergraduate student at Georgia State University taking my very first class on income tax. I’d known since I was a kid that I wanted to grow up to study accounting – but that was just because my mom suggested it as a backup plan when I told her I wanted to grow up to be rich and famous. I wasn’t sure what accounting discipline I wanted to pursue until I took that first tax class.

After graduating from Georgia State, I enrolled in the masters program at Kennesaw State University where I took even more tax classes and gained a deeper understanding of the Tax Code and how it can really help taxpayers build wealth if only they understood what opportunities are available. I officially started my career in the tax industry in 2009.

Since then, I’ve dedicated my career to leveling the playing field for taxpayers of all sizes. From guiding small business owners to working with multi-billion dollar corporations, my mission has always been to bridge the gap in access to tax strategy. Witnessing firsthand how large entities leverage the Tax Code to minimize their liabilities, I was struck by the disparity in resources available to small businesses and motivated by a profound desire to change the narrative.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle I’ve had in my career is educating taxpayers and potential clients about the need for proactive tax planning. So many people are used to not thinking about taxes until it’s time to file a return, and unfortunately, by that time, there aren’t a lot of opportunities to lower their tax bill. Changing people’s mindset to think about taxes ahead of time has been something of an uphill battle, but I’m slowly getting through to people!

Also when it comes to educating people about taxes, there are so many so-called gurus and experts out there that give out misleading or incomplete information that sounds way sexier than the truth, and sometimes it’s hard to pull people’s focus away from what sounds good to what’s actually right.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m an income tax strategist. I help content creators and other digital entrepreneurs lower their tax liability through proactive tax strategies. My goal is to help my clients work less so that they can live more. I’m most proud of my ability to explain complex tax concepts to my clients so that they can understand their tax situation and be empowered to make effective decisions for their business and their life.

What matters most to you? Why?
Financial freedom and security for everyone matter most to me. My main goal with offering tax planning services isn’t to have people pay less tax just to stick it to the government. It’s not about Uncle Sam at all really. It’s about helping people keep more of their income so that they can work less and live more without worrying about making ends meet.
