Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Boss.
Hi Ken, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My music journey started in 2013, playing keyboards and doing backup vocals for a band I was in during High School, which led me to find my passion in music. Going into my college years, I was a drummer in a metalcore band based out of Kalamazoo, MI.
We played shows and did a few tours across the Midwest, including West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, and of course plenty of shows in Michigan. It wasn’t until 2018 that I really started to dive into the world of electronic music after attending my first festival, Electric Forest.
After EF, I dove headfirst into producing and DJ’ing electronic music, starting with more melodic influences, including Illenium, San Holo, and Seven Lions. I started releasing a few songs in late 2018 and really started to find my sound in 2019. During that time, I would occasionally perform at some local events and focused a lot on learning the ins and outs of production for the sound I was going for.
After graduating college in 2020, I moved to Nashville, TN, where I found the EDM scene was alive and well, even through the COVID-19 pandemic. I found myself playing out a lot more during this time, and even opening for national artists including Dabin, Eliminate, Dirty Audio, Megalodon, N3WPORT, and even going b2b with Virtual Riot for an after-hours event.
During my time in Nashville, I also really honed in on my own sound even more, releasing multiple singles, remixes, and a couple of EPs, one of which was a collaboration EP with Elysian (now known as Emerald Gates). In 2022, I moved to Atlanta, GA to find work in my field of multimedia engineering, and found myself playing at a few local spots for a while and releasing more music than I had before, averaging 1 new release every month.
In the past few months, I have stepped back from playing out to focus more on work and my personal life, but behind the scenes, I am working on producing more new music and working with multiple artists across the country on some awesome collaborations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any creative outlet, there have always been some struggles. Whether it’s finding a particular sound that I want to go for, or just getting my name out into the local and regional scenes, there have always been some boundaries I’ve had to overcome. Something that I’ve struggled with, personally, is finding the creativity to make new music when I’m in a creative slump.
I found that not forcing creativity, but allowing it to come naturally and when I’m ready, has helped me tremendously to not make music just to push something out. Through all of those struggles, however, I find that my passion for music has always pushed me to keep growing and pushing on.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As of right now, I am an audio video engineer, traveling the country installing AV systems for companies like Cisco, Amazon, Facebook, and many more. I specialize in mainly installing conference systems ranging from rooms for 6-10 people, all the way to large auditoriums with video walls and extensive sound systems.
I love seeing these projects start from just drawings on paper to these incredible systems with tons of integration of technology and feeling the satisfaction of taking a blank canvas, into these massive multimedia spaces.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way for people to support me is simply listening and sharing my music from any music platform! Whenever I see someone enjoying my music, it makes me incredibly happy and gives me a sense of satisfaction that what I’m doing is impacting someone. Why make music if not to communicate and inspire people?
If people want to work with me, it’s as simple as sending me a message or an email. For 1 on 1, it’s easiest to just message me on Instagram or TikTok. For show bookings, I do have my incredible manager Michael from Affinity Sounds. His contact information can also be found on my socials. In short, if you wanna work or talk, just let me know!
