Saundra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
DeKel mPact Services was established in 2019 by myself, a homeschooling mom. The goal of creating the learning community was to increase families’ awareness of school choice, provide learners an opportunity to “experience” learning rather than “hear” learning, and impact community’s future through student interest and project-based activities.
The learning community doors opened in March 2020, the day schools closed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. This world-changing pandemic fueled the need for families to be educated, empowered, and, most of all, supported!
Since 2020, DeKel mPact Services has supported over 100 families across Georgia and South Carolina.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As an edupreneur, I have encountered several obstacles and challenges on my journey to innovate within the education sector. One specific challenge is limited resources for edupreneurs educational ventures, particularly funding capital.
Developing quality educational services requires research, development, and marketing, which can be difficult to obtain for smaller ventures. Also, navigating regulatory and compliance requirements, especially when introducing new educational models. Ensuring that my initiatives align with educational standards while pushing the boundaries of traditional approaches can be a delicate balance.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Most recently, I’ve focused my research skills on current educational techniques and policies impacting future edupreneurs. I aim to establish nationwide connections among like-minded professionals so families may thrive, not just survive, under innovative initiatives embraced by modern parents worldwide.
Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
As an edupreneur, what brings me happiness is the ability to blend my passion for education with being a small business owner.
Seeing families thrive academically, emotionally, and socially within my hometown community fills me with immense joy. Furthermore, creating innovative resources and solutions that empower not only families but also other educators.
Knowing that my work positively impacts families, learners, and educators of all ages and backgrounds and contributes to educational evolution is gratifying.
