Rising Stars: Meet Andrea Yordanova

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Yordanova.

Andrea Yordanova

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Of course! I grew up in Bulgaria – a small country with a rich history in Eastern Europe. I started taking acting classes at eight after seeing my best friend shooting a film in the summer.

After my first-ever acting class, I absolutely fell in love with the craft, and ever since, there has never been anything else I’d ever wanted to do. What I feel is a higher calling that I found my way to pretty early in life, and I’m happy to be able to do it.

Since then, I have never really stopped taking acting.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Acting and the entertainment industry are never smooth. You face so much rejection that, at one point, you start asking yourself if this is even meant for you or if you should take it as a redirection.

I can see why so many people give up on it. It’s very tough. What I think, though, is if there’s a will, there’s a way. Always. Especially if you can’t see yourself doing anything else. Just work hard, be disciplined, dedicated, and faithful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
One of my favorite acting projects, and also one of the very firsts, was in the biggest Bulgarian TV series called “Stolen Life.” It’s a medical drama where you can see some of the best Bulgarian actors. At the time, I was taking acting classes in a very famous Bulgarian actor acting studio. He told all of us that they were looking for a young actress for the show and wanted all of the girls to audition for it.

After auditioning, I had the pleasure of being chosen out of everyone in the studio. I had the best time on set, getting a great amount of screen time, being able to tell an important story, and working with two of my favorite actors. Not long after the shoot of the show, the director reached out to me, saying how much she loved my work and discipline on set and that she wanted me to work on another project with her without even auditioning.

She said I’d be perfect for it. It’s called “Night” – a book trailer for the amazing writer Kamelia Kutcher. Now, if I said the show was one of my favorite things I’ve done, this trailer is my all-time favorite. I got to play the lead role of a girl called Eva in the book. It was such a pleasure and honor to be presented with this opportunity.

One of my favorite things I’ve done so far this year is taking part in what is to be a huge feature film for the King of Pop. I went to set without even knowing what I was shooting for, as it had a “secret name” for the castings. I wasn’t really expecting anything; I went there as an extra.

After a few hours of hair and makeup for all 300 people, we were about to start shooting. That’s when the director of the movie came out and really liked me, making me a “featured extra,” meaning I had more screen time playing a character. That was such a fun set to be in, filled with lots of music, dances, and laughs.

To be honest, I’m very happy and proud of everything I do. I’m thankful to have great and meaningful projects. More recently, I started modeling. There was this audition for Pepsi, and I was chosen out of 1500 women. It was so much fun working on it. It was later all over their official website, Facebook, and Instagram, and still is, almost a year later.

Coming back to the US after my summer break brought me so much modeling work. I did a campaign for Tim Hortons, a jewelry brand, a sunglasses brand, and for my absolute favorite place in NYC, Juice Generation. Being chosen for all of these and more made me decide to start applying for more modeling jobs.

Earlier this year, I walked my first runway for New York Fashion Week for the incredible designer Celeste Victoria. She reached out to me on Instagram after following me for some time. I had the pleasure of being able to show off her designs to the world. I had two outfits, and both of them were some of the most beautiful and sexy dresses I’d ever worn.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
What I think is important for building a successful actor or any profession you really want to follow is definitely discipline, love for what you do, and hard work. Another thing is kindness; it will take you a long way.

I’ve always arrived on sets earlier than my call time. I think that’s important. Nobody likes people being late on set. It wastes time, therefore, money.
