Today, we’d like to introduce you to John E. Wall.
Hi John, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Since grade school, I have partaken in sketching, caricature, painting, and even ceramics long before entering into the field of photography.
While attending Oakwood University (Huntsville, AL) during my sophomore year, I started photography using the camera my father gave me as a graduation gift. In that semester alone, I was doing a photoshoot nearly every day, totaling over 55 photoshoots and a fashion show within the span of a school semester minus two months due to the Pandemic.
In 2021, while at the vegan donut shop “Vegan Dream Donuts” in the West End, capturing the sunset against the MARTA railing, I met the son of the owner of the donut shop, “JB” the owner of “BuiltbyJB Studios. He asked if I would be interested in using his studio space for my photography, so I took his offer and got my first membership there.
There, I began to assist a plethora of great photographers in the city, such as @chechofbomb, @acerdude2, @treyshotme, @tre.theotherworldly, and @adose.of.artes, just to name a few. These photographers played a major in my development in the industry, and I appreciate them greatly.
Since then, I have gained a great friend and mentor, Neville J. Forbes, who has been a great resource for knowledge, networking, and opportunity. I have gained new friends with amazing talent in the industry, and I have been working with the best models in the city via Click Atlanta and Ursula Wiedmann Models. I have not only improved my portfolio but also the portfolio of others.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
In the grand scheme of things, it has been a smooth journey. I face challenges like self-doubt, discouragement, and loss of direction, but by staying consistent and inspired by the grace of God, I was able to overcome those challenges.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer specializing commercially, but I have a variety of talents, including portraiture, headshots & beauty, event photography, real estate photography, candid, and architecture photography. I am most known for the quality of my photos compared to magazines.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to invest and always be a student. Find a teacher of any subject you are interested in, receive the advice given to you, and apply it. I guarantee that will be 10x your growth.
