Inspiring Conversations with Juno Moss of Karisma Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juno Moss.

Juno Moss

Hi Juno, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello, my name is Juno, and I am a 26-year-old R&B and indie singer/songwriter. I also run a media publication called Karisma Collective, where I give artists and creatives their flowers. I started singing at a very young age, I’d say around 3-4. Then, I went on to do music in school. My mom would take me to Disney Channel auditions, and I just remember being so infatuated with music that I always knew that I would be doing something in the industry, whether that was singing, writing, or acting. It all just came very naturally to me. I would say It wasn’t until high school that I actually started taking my music a little more seriously, and I began to write songs here and there. I had always been a writer and a storyteller, but making music was something that became fun. I remember making random songs on my phone and uploading them to SoundCloud when it was so popular and new back then. I thought I was so cool, but a lot of my songs were private, so no one could hear them. I was experimenting. After high school, I went to college and I majored in creative media in film at NAU but during my time in college my grandma passed and I think that sparked a fire in me, one of her last wishes was for me to continue doing my music. After her passing, a lot of things were a blur. It wasn’t until 2020, when I would write and recorded my song 9-5 in Los Angeles, that would changed drastically. I ended up releasing 9-5 in 2021 It was released. I don’t think I would be the artist I am today If I hadn’t transitioned back to LA at the time to pursue my career. 9-5 was my introduction to the music scene around my peers and the first single I felt confident about. I remember posting it on TikTok tok, and it went up, and I was so excited. I didn’t expect to get the reach I did, releasing my first single. It was mind-boggling that people were listening to me. My words, my thoughts, my heart resonated. It was a magical feeling. Fast forward to today, and I think my sound and writing have changed so much. I love R&B and Soul, and when I wrote my first single, I was very connected to It. 9-5 was very Jazzy and upbeat. Now, I’ve been heavily influenced in 2024 by artists like Smino, Saba, Jid, Ari Lennox, and Kota The Friend. Those are just a few to name, but it’s transitioned to more of this bouncy hip-hop/ R&B sound. I think my fans enjoy that side of me more, but I also think with this new sound, the music I’m creating is more intentional, and you can hear the growth as an artist from where I’ve been and where I’m going. I’m currently working on my next project but the single that everyone has been resonating with that I’ve been teasing off the project is called Grits (I’m black). I don’t have a set date yet for this project release because I don’t think you can rush good music, and you shouldn’t, but it will be this year. As an artist and creative, I always strived to find outlets that would support small artists like myself. Being in Arizona, I felt like my options were limited, and when I first started, I didn’t know a lot of the scene in my city. I wanted to create a safe space where artists and creatives could showcase their talents and also find resources to enhance their brand. That’s when Karisma Collective was born.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been an easy road at all. I think the biggest struggle for me has been organization, balance, and self-doubt. I’ve struggled a lot with doing music, balancing my outside life, and creating a media team, sometimes I feel like I’m not doing enough when it comes to nurturing my craft. The music industry is very competitive, and the pressure to continuously be innovative and exceed expectations can be paralyzing. This relentless pursuit of perfection can be a double-edged sword. I’m just trying not to lose sight of what’s important and the end goal. Along with that, I think I’ve been wayed down by self-doubt because I’m a perfectionist, and I want to make quality music as an artist but also give quality content to the artist I’m providing resources and services to on my platform. However, I think no matter how much the road gets tough I don’t give up and I always find a way to give myself grace, pick my head up and keep going. Even amongst the occasional haters, I just tune them out. As I grow and get wiser, I realize people will talk about you whether you are doing good or bad, so make sure you show up for yourself and be confident in every room.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
I started Karisma Collective back in 2020. It started as a hobby, just taking pictures of an artist if I was at a show or an event, and then I took it to the next level. Karisma Collective today is beyond the traditional music platform. It’s not just a place for listeners to discover their next favorite artist; it’s a community where artists can grow, learn, and connect with industry professionals. Through its various initiatives, Karisma Collective ensures that artists are given the visibility they need in today’s saturated market. One of the core offerings of Karisma Collective is its live music reviews with another flourishing brand called Localsonle. This feature allows artists to receive real-time feedback on their work from seasoned industry professionals, offering invaluable insights that can help refine their sound and performance. Additionally, by organizing and facilitating performance opportunities, Karisma Collective gives artists a chance to showcase their talent on stage, providing them with the exposure necessary to build a loyal fanbase. Karisma Collective actively works to secure Spotify placements for its artists. This not only boosts their visibility but also increases their streaming numbers, a crucial metric in the success of modern musicians. Moreover, through conducting in-depth interviews with its artists, Karisma Collective offers a platform for them to share their stories, inspirations, and aspirations, further connecting them with their audience. Some of the artists I have recently interviewed have been Reason TDE, GroupTherapy, Kota the friend Zyah Belle, Wynne, Xian Bell, Overkast, Tobi, and Anabelle Kline, amongst more upcoming artists and creatives. These interviews not only provide fans with a closer look at their favorite artists but also inspire the Collective’s roster of emerging talents by demonstrating the possibilities that lie ahead. As Karisma Collective continues to grow, its mission remains the same: to empower the next generation of music talent by providing them with the platform and resources they need to succeed. In a world were breaking into the music industry is more challenging than ever, Karisma Collective stands out as a lighthouse for emerging artists navigating their way to success.

For aspiring musicians, Karisma Collective represents more than just a platform; it’s a community that fosters growth, nurtures talent, and champions the underdog. As it moves forward, Karisma Collective will undoubtedly continue to be at the forefront of discovering and supporting the stars of tomorrow, making it an indispensable ally in the journey of any emerging artist. I can definitely see Karisma Collective being the next genius or complex. It’s only a matter of time. I’ve come so far in such short amount of time I believe anything is possible.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say be your mentor. When it came to building the Karisma collective, I found out what I was good at, and that was doing my research on the industry, networking and creating connections, and finding a niche that stands out. I think it’s important to learn as much as you can about the field you want to branch into. Don’t be afraid to study and be the student of your craft. I knew that I always wanted to do music in some compacity, so I betted on myself, and I never looked back. Don’t be afraid to take that risk; you never know where it might lead you.
