Andy’s story unfolds like a narrative of undying resilience and profound transformation, beginning in the quiet neighborhoods of New Jersey and weaving through the challenging terrains of life’s unforeseeable circumstances. His decision to serve his country straight out of high school in 2001 placed him on a path marked by dedication and sacrifice—a path that took an unexpected turn on June 20, 2006. On this day, while deployed in Iraq, Andy’s life changed irrevocably when a roadside bomb targeted his vehicle, resulting in the loss of three fellow Marines and leaving him with a spinal cord injury that led to quadriplegia. This moment not only tested his physical and emotional limits but also reshaped his understanding of service and survival. 

The road to recovery was fraught with challenges, as Andy spent seven months in various hospitals, followed by a year of intensive outpatient therapy. This period was a testament to his unyielding spirit and the unwavering support of his wife, Sara, whom he had married in 2004 after both graduated from high school together. Their journey, marked by shared dreams and challenges, was further enriched by the arrival of their twins in 2011, adding a new layer of joy and responsibility to their lives. 

Education played a pivotal role in Andy’s transition to a new phase of life. Upon earning his bachelor’s degree, he embarked on a career at Academy Securities in San Diego, CA, a veteran-focused investment bank that resonated with his personal and professional ethos. His role in building the commercial finance business line from the ground up was not just a professional achievement but also a contribution to a mission that aligned with his values—supporting military veterans in their transition to civilian careers. 

In 2020, seeking a community that echoed their values and aspirations, Andy and his family moved to Woodstock, GA, a suburb of Atlanta. Here, Andy continued his work with Academy Securities remotely, embracing community life, coaching his son’s baseball team, and pursuing his passion for whiskey through active membership in several whiskey clubs. 

The year 2023 marked the inception of Six Twenty Investments, a real estate investment company co-founded by Andy and Sara. Named in honor of the significant date of June 20, 2006—the day that both challenged and changed Andy’s life—Six Twenty Investments symbolizes resilience, renewal, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. Specializing in short-term vacation rentals, the company is not just a business venture but a manifestation of Andy’s journey, embodying a commitment to maximizing investment returns while creating memorable experiences for guests. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Certainly, the journey has not been a smooth road but rather one marked by significant challenges and profound learning experiences. The pivotal moment came on June 20, 2006, when a roadside bomb in Iraq forever altered the course of my life. The incident, which resulted in the loss of three fellow Marines and left me with a spinal cord injury causing quadriplegia, introduced me to struggles I had never imagined facing. The physical and emotional toll of adapting to life with quadriplegia, coupled with the loss of comrades, posed immense challenges. The months spent in hospitals and the extensive outpatient therapy that followed were periods of intense personal struggle but also of significant growth and determination. 

Transitioning from a highly active lifestyle and a career in the Marine Corps to adjusting to life with a spinal cord injury required not only physical adaptation but a complete mental and emotional recalibration. Learning to live again, to find purpose and drive amidst such a drastic change, was a journey in itself. The support of my wife, Sara, and the motivation provided by the birth of our twins were instrumental in navigating this difficult period. 

Professionally, transitioning to a civilian career presented its own set of challenges. Despite the skills and leadership experience gained in the military, translating those assets into the civilian workforce, particularly in the finance sector, involved navigating unfamiliar terrain. Joining Academy Securities and building out the commercial finance business line from the ground up was rewarding, yet came with its steep learning curve and the need to prove myself in a completely different context. 

Moreover, entering the real estate investment space with Six Twenty Investments, especially focusing on short-term vacation rentals, introduced a new set of challenges. Navigating the complexities of the real estate market, understanding the nuances of property management, and ensuring guest satisfaction while maximizing investment returns required a significant investment of time, learning, and adaptation. 

Each of these experiences, while challenging, has contributed to my growth and resilience. They have taught me the importance of adaptability, the strength of perseverance, and the value of community and support systems. The road has been anything but smooth, yet it is these very struggles that have shaped the journey, making it uniquely rewarding and fulfilling.
