Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Castillo.
Christian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After playing in punk, pop punk, hardcore, metalcore and progressive rock bands through out highscool and in my twenties I took a small break from Music for about two years. Not knowing where to go next or even if I wanted to continue pursuing my dream at all cause all my projects would eventually rise and fall. I felt hopeless, My heart and soul yearned for a fresh new start at music. So I did some soul searching. I wanted to try a whole new genre, I wanted to grow more as a musician and songwriter. This took months of searching new artist and genres until finally I ran across Rebelution, Iration, tribal Seeds, Collie buddz and more. I instintly fell in love with the genre of “Reggae Rock” not only did the music catch my ear but the messages and all the bands and people involved in the American Reggae movement did as well. The positivity and love that surrounds the scene is very powerful. So finally In early 2015 I decided to start a Reggae Rock project called “Rhythm Earth” meaning; Music should come natural to your heart, soul and mind just like Mother Nature Comes naturally to earth.
Has it been a smooth road?
There has been many challenges along the way with the project. There is now a total of 3 former band members that have come and gone with the project. Most importantly my friend Jarod Ganoe that founded the band with me form the start, he played drums and was the recording producer for our first EP “Room To Grow.” Once jarod moved to Europe in june of 2017 I was very saddened but more driven then ever to keep the project alive for we had gained a lot of attention in the 2 1/2 years that we performed together. Later in The summer Yakou Daniel N’guessan joined the project permanently and The band is now growing and active more than ever. we are working on our new album which we released our first single “Fire” of it early this year. All our music is on all digital distributors please go and check out the tunes.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The American reggae movement started out in The west coast as early as the 1990’s with bands such as the legendary sublime. It’s just in The Beginning of the 2000’s that bands started to emerge and blow up, slowly migrating to the eastcoast states, like, SC, NC, ATL and FL. Now the growth is in full swing out here in the east coast and there’s no stoping it. Atlanta is The city with the least reggae rock in the east but we love that for we would be honored to be one of Atlanta’s founding fathers of the movement. we are slowly growing more and more with every passing month. We have opened for top American Reggae artist such as Ballyhoo!, The Movement, Tropidelic, Iya Terra, The Holdup and more. We have even been a support act for the legendary famous Chilean reggae band “Gondwana”we were blessed to play the Atlanta peach drop concert this past New Year’s Eve along side TLC and Tyrese. Our name is getting out there and we plan on expanding it a million times more with no stopping. So yes I believe that in 5 or 10 years we will be very happy of where we could potentially be at that point. We plan on keeping the momentum going for a loooooooong time!
