Today we’d like to introduce you to Symadia Sam.
Hi Symadia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, for one, I’d like to introduce myself; hello, everyone!!! My name is Symadia, but I’m more than happy with everyone calling me Sym for short because I don’t want anyone straining themselves to pronounce Symadia, lol! How did I start? How did I get where I am today? I actually really like this question because it gives me a chance to walk down memory lane and realize how far I’ve truly come.
By the age of 17, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I just had to find something I enjoyed doing. Around that time, all of the girls were doing makeup, nails, eyelash extensions, hair, etc. But that just wasn’t my thing. I didn’t care to learn how to do those things, and yes, it was making a lot of money, but no. I didn’t want to do anything I wasn’t a thousand percent interested and invested in. I wanted to LOVE what I did.
I always watched Tipsy Bartender in my free time, my HS & College days. I loved how creative he got with the different flavors and ideas of how to present the cocktails/mocktails he was making. I started watching other content pertaining to bartending, like Bar Rescue; I started following other Bartenders who created amazing content, like @six8bartend. I ended up falling in love with everything bar-related.
Within that time, I realized that I would love to do something bar-related, and sooner than later, I went and obtained my Bartending Certificate and decided that I was going to start my own Mobile Bartending Company.
It was different, unique, exciting, and I loved everything about it!
I shared everything with my sisters, and when I told my oldest sister that I wanted to start my own business, she was excited but, more importantly, proud. My family always looks to me as the Inspo of the family because of the countless faith they have in me.
I called my sister, and I said ”Toya, help me with a name for my business”. I remember being on the phone with Toya for about an hour while I worked my Security job, brainstorming name ideas. We came up with a bunch or crap. But then she says, “What about Syms Mix&Tricks“…
That was it!!! It resonated so well with the idea, the concept of what I wanted for my company, and I fell in love. I told Toya that she can get whatever she wants when I blow up because she came up with the name of my business in which I have now successfully owned for 8 years 🎉
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship is super tough, especially when you’re doing it alone. I think the toughest part is playing every single member of your business. You’re the Manager, The Bartender, The Customer Service Representative, The Complaints Line, The Marketing Team, The Assistant Manager, The Vice President, and so on and so forth. It gets super tough juggling every position. & Don’t let life start lifting; you’re in for one hell of a ride! Customers don’t know the hassle and the super hard labor that is put into their events, especially behind the scenes, that’s when the most work is done.
Thats why it’s so important to love what you do and do what you love, the tough times will test you. But when you love what you do, there’s nothing in this world that will stop you from doing what you love.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I run one of NY’s favorable Mobile Bartending Companies, in other words, I bring the bar to you! I specialize in Signature Cocktails, and I am most acknowledged for my opulent and eye-catching display. When it comes to my display, I am extremely diligent, and that alone is what sets me apart from others. I care about the placement of my garnish, the way the menu is positioned, the way the cups align when I line them up, I even care about how the tip jar is positioned, it can’t be too close to the edge or too far away from the front lol. I am extremely proud of my work and the faith that I have in myself, things get super hard, I get discouraged, and sometimes I feel like giving up honestly, but when I look at my work and look back at feedback from my clients & other entrepreneurs, I’m reminded that this is my calling. I’m doing exactly what I love and what I’m supposed to do.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My loyal clients are my biggest supporters; they remind me daily how amazing I am at what I do. My sisters, my mom, and my significant other never fail to cheer me on and give me the reassurance I need.
My best friend and close friends remind me how amazing my work truly is, and I love the look on their faces & how genuinely satisfied they are with my work; whether it’s me making drinks at our small gathering or them seeing me post my work, they always have the best reactions to my work. Super grateful for them!
I also want to give a shout out to Ashli (@CapitalAEvents), a childhood family friend, herself and her family have supported me from the beginning and til this very moment. If it isn’t them recommending me or booking me theirselves, they always remind me when times get hard to never give up and to keep going. Ashli is actually a super dope Event Planner & Graphic Designer; definitely check her out.
When it comes to mentors, I’ve only had one real mentor, and her name is Jas. She actually owns a Mobile Bartending Company herself (@mixychix), she’s one of the best in ATL! She inspired me a lot in my early days, and to this day, she is just absolutely amazing at what she does.
Overall, I have to give credit to any and everyone who supports me. That can be a referral, a share, a like, a comment, a booking, an inquiry, you don’t have to put money in my pocket to support me. Support is indeed free. I’m grateful for it all!
