Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff and ShaVonne LaDonis.
Hi Jeff and ShaVonne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Long story short, my sister and I had an event planning company named Voré; I didn’t like the fact that we’d spend hours putting up a room only to take it down within a few hours, so I went back to school to become an Interior Designer.
Seriously, I started humbly over 23 years ago as an event planner, doing events such as weddings, family gatherings, and social events for friends and family. Over the years, we have grown our company to a bicoastal and internationally renowned company whose name sets its own standards and brand. Gathering inspiration from my travels abroad to Europe, throughout the Caribbean, Canada, and cities such as New York, Miami, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, We are inspired to create a decor that invites a sanctuary for my spoiled clients.
Being African American and loving all things beautiful, we can’t help but feel kindred to the mother continent of Africa; however, growing up in the South, the influence of the Georgian low country and the urban sprawl of Atlanta heavily influenced my views on interior design as well. The various textures, design patterns, and colors burst into my head as I unite the warmth of the days with the cool of the nights. It’s our narrative; I am an Interior Designer; it is my natural gift, and the beauty of our African culture adds soul and emotion to the scheme of our designs.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been an uphill climb, one with slippery walls made of mud, a damp and sometimes lonely road. A lot of sacrifices along the way, a few wayward friends and faces even fell off the map. We’ve traveled across some green pastures but also fell upon some artificial turf; all growing pains, yet worth it. The road is still being traveled, the path still being paved before us, and while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, journey is in the mind.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
There are a few things. First, we pray. We don’t design anything without asking God to show us His plans; then we go from there. We don’t take what we have for granted, not our gifts, not our skills, not our clients. Second, because my first degree is in Psychology, we always do an analysis to determine what mood suits our clients best. This is based on color theory and its effects on mood control in a design scheme.
