Today we’d like to introduce you to Alec Adams.
Hi Alec, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Living in Atlanta, when I tell people where I am from, I instantly get a look of concern. As if I chose to be born there. I am from Indianapolis, Indiana… also known as NAPTOWN! Although it was not an ideal place to pursue the industry I am now in, don’t sleep on it! It was and is a great place to grow up, and I’m glad to call it home. Having said that, I did struggle finding a sense of belonging. I always knew what I enjoyed doing, but it never really aligned with my environment. The entertainment industry just wasn’t a part of my upbringing, so it did take for me to move to a place where I felt I had a better chance at my lifelong dream.
Since moving in 2019, I don’t have a bad thing to say about Atlanta. It is slowly turning me into the man that 9-year-old boy with hopes and dreams of being on TV thought he could be! Having honed my skills through several acting classes, workshops, and sets and building a supportive community of resilient artists around me, I am confident in my ability to bring a certain level of authenticity and versatility to any role thrown my way.
I am far from where I want to be, but I’m right where I’m supposed to be!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Doing what you’re called to do can be a rewarding yet challenging process. It comes with its own set of struggles that many might not want to ever embark upon. One of the biggest challenges for actors is the unpredictability. Securing consistent work can be strenuous, leading to a multitude of uncertainties. However, that is when faith in the God I serve leads me to the rewarding fruits I am seeking.
Many know what they are called to do, but it is a very scary thing because you can’t always see it. It took me some time, but I recognize I don’t always have to see in order to fulfill. I face rejection, financial instability, competition, criticism, typecasting, etc. Juggling all of this on a consistent basis, while still developing my craft not to mention the emotional toll to pick myself up day after day.
I think the worst part is the impulsive need to compare… wondering, “Why not me?” and “When will it be my turn?”. It takes a lot to come to grips with your journey is YOUR JOURNEY. I bet you’re wondering, “Who would put themselves through this kind of torture???” haha. A man that spent most of his life doing what he assumed people expected of him and now understands his true passion and staying true to it. No matter what!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an ACTOR!!! Surprisingly, it took me a long time to say that. I feel we all deal with imposter syndrome at some point in our careers, especially when we aren’t making the mark in the profession we had hoped to see once we began. You can now catch me on SEVERAL streaming platforms and commercials ba ba baby!!!
I can proudly say I have worked with some incredible people on some amazing sets. What I am most proud of is the film I star in called “Boxed In II.” Not only am I proud of the film, but I’m most proud of the way I was able to become a part of this film. A true testament to the diligence that goes into this business. From postproduction, all the way up to the release was nothing short of an amazing experience. Not to mention the profuse amount of love and support I received once it aired… indescribable!
I thoroughly enjoy the power of storytelling and its ability to create empathy and understanding. Through this mere enjoyment of mine is where I believe what helps set me apart.
If you haven’t already, you can tune in and support my work on Hulu, Disney +, Peacock, Prime, Paramount +, Tubi, and BET +.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Ah Covid… what a time to be alive! I think it’s safe to say Covid made the world hit the ‘reset button’ on life. I remember I just signed with my agency, and I just knew my career was about to take off and I was about to get everything I’d been working so hard for! Ever want to make God laugh? Yea… you know the rest haha.
Everything happens for a reason, and the amount of reflection, gratitude, and perspective I gained during that time is immeasurable. I’m not sure if it was an age thing or a pandemic thing, but you realize it’s not all about you. God put us here to not only serve Him but one another, and it’s funny to me how He isolated us in a way to make us truly see that.
As for acting, the pandemic truly reshaped the landscape of the profession. Emphasizing resilience, community, adaptability, and the enduring power of artistic expression in the face of adversity.
