Today we’d like to introduce you to Devyn Bryant.
Hi Devyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hey I’m Devyn! I’m married with 2 kids and I’m from a military town in Oklahoma. So my baking story begins with my mom’s oatmeal cookies. She used to make them when I was kid and I used to love eating the dough from the bowl. Those cookies were the start of my sweet journey into baking.
Fast forward a bit, and I find myself in North Carolina, where I meet my amazing husband. Together, we end up in Atlanta, and when the savings account dried up, I tried my hand at selling the desserts I would casually make for my family.
I started with cakes for friends and family, and a couple of “learning experiences” in business – okay, they were total flops, but we learn, right? Then the pandemic hit, and I decided it was time to get serious.
All those early cakes and the lessons from my earlier ventures laid the foundation for the business I have today. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to bake for celebrities and now focus on creating thousands of desserts for weddings, conferences, and corporate events. It’s been quite the ride, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It absolutely hasn’t been smooth, especially in the beginning. Entrepreneurship is funny in that the road is forever winding. It’s like, as soon as I think I have something down pack, something comes up that I have no idea how to do. But I’ve learned to pivot and lean on my community. One of the struggles in the beginning was balance. I wanted to put my all into my business, especially when it started to grow. However, I have a family that I love dearly. I had to learn how and when to put my ambition to the side so that I can continue to be present for them.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to refer to myself as a dessert caterer that specializes in cake artistry. My day to day is designing and creating cakes for various events. That’s really what I’m known for. I also cater desserts for large-scale events. My most proud moment in my business is being booked for an event where I had to make 3400 individually packaged desserts for an event. That event stretched me a lot! My business turned into a family business at that moment. We were all in here trying to figure it out, staying up day and night to get it done, but we did it, and it was awesome!
What’s next?
I’m just focusing on growth. My overall goal is to get a product, specifically my signature Cheesecake Mousse (which you HAVE to try), into stores.
