Hi Sherian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My makeup journey started as a little girl; my mother did hair and makeup in her community, and growing up watching her inspired me! I use to play in her makeup all the time and get in trouble. She lost her kidneys at 25, so she wasn’t able to pursue her career! Being the youngest of all my siblings, As I got older, the passion grew! I would always dress up and do my makeup! When I began working at a my Call center job, people would ask do I do makeup? I would say “No“ but 2 of the girls (Kashea and Jasmine) asked me to do their makeup while we was at work, I did it and I actually couldn’t believe it! After that, I took my work checks and invested in my makeup kit! I used to bring my Makeup kit to work and do makeup every chance I got! 2 years after that, I took a step out of Faith and quit my Job after fasting, asking God if it was the right time! People around me said it was a bad idea! Working full-time and trying to run a business was a bit much, and I was newly Married! But after I Prayed and sought God, he confirmed it was time to walk by Faith and not sight! After quitting, I never look back! I thank God for my Husband, family, friends and supporters for believing and supporting me!!! After working as a freelance makeup artist for a Year, I went to esthetics school to obtain my Esthetician license! My husband (Darrionta) which is a photographer, and I open up a 500 sq ft studio where we worked together to provide Makeup and photography services! We worked hard for 2 years with no trips, no off days, long nights, and early mornings! Our business grew so fast that we had to move into a bigger building, which was 2700 square feet! Over the years, it continues to grow! 2023 I was blessed to Open my Own storefront Rainy Expressions Beauty Salon! My business is more than just providing a service; it’s a Ministry! It’s a place where I’m able to express women beauty on the inside and out! I pour into my clients The Word of God, Love, positivity, joy! The atmosphere is always peaceful, welcoming, loving, clean! This is a safe place for women! When I started my business, I can remember praying, and God said your business will be a platform for me to reach people!
I thank God for the many blessings and bring so many women in my path that I’m able to build up their spiritual and physical beauty! Building a business is not easy! It takes a lot of God, Patience, support, endurance, faith, belief, consistency, and more! Since I started my business 7 years ago, I have always been a walking billboard for my Brand! Everywhere I go, I promote, pass out cards, and introduce myself to people! I also utilize all my social media platforms to promote my business! No matter if I wasn’t getting any likes or views, I kept posting!! Because I believe in myself, and I know to not give up before you even start! My faith in God has played a big role in everything I do! God keeps me going on the Tough days and keep my hope alive! I provide Makeup Classes that teach women to enhance their beauty, I provide Bridal services, I’m a Microshading Artist, & I have so much more I am working on! I’m also getting ready to start my mentorship program where I can help women and young girls in the industry on how to get started and turn their passion into a career! I didn’t believe I can make over 6 Figures just doing Makeup! All I can say is to God be the glory! This is only the beginning.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The Road hasn’t always been smoothed as a Full-Time entrepreneur! I faced many setbacks and adversity, but I learned to use those moments as an opportunity to grow and not to give up! I remember when starting, I reached out to people and asked for mentorship, no one responded! I was upset, but I didn’t let it stop me! I begin practicing and studying my craft, and I learn that really experience was the best teacher! I also learned delay gratification! Some stuff that I wanted had to be delayed until the right time! I remember having to move out my first studio and had to makeup out my house for a year because I was in school full time, and I didn’t want to put that weight on my husband because he took care of everything else! That allowed me to save and prepare for my next shop! When I graduated, we moved into a bigger building, and during that time, I was purchasing all the equipment and decor while in school, so I was set! I even faced times where business was slow, and I was spending into my business more than I was making! I didn’t give up I just look for new strategies to implement to set me apart and increase revenue! When the pandemic hit, that was a challenge’ I couldn’t provide any services! I got very creative and invested in content creations and hosting virtual classes, and selling Makeup cosmetics! You have to learn how to adapt and endure change! Moving into my storefront, it happen so quick, I wasn’t prepared! I’m still learning. I have mentors that help me navigate through new ventures! So, you have to be a student and teacher I believe hard times develop you and build you up. It’s necessary for growth!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
As a person who is big on self-development, I always been a person to read! I love books self-help books! My first book that shift my thinking was “The Holy Bible“ knowing and understand God has been life changing! Finding my true identity in him shift so many things and even gave me the courage and faith to start my business and has kept me going this far! My second favorite is “the Magic of thinking BIG. “ Sometimes, we can’t see past our circumstances! But when you allow your faith to believe and think for you ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! I also read “No Comparisons“ that book help me to not compare myself to others while on my journey because that typically steal your joy! I listen to many Podcasts, way too many to name, but mostly business, self-help, mindset, and mental health podcasts! I listen and read things that help to keep you balanced and focused! I’m even starting my podcast, “Beauty for the Soul Podcast,” helping women to see and develop the beauty that flows inside out! I’m super excited to pour into and help women grow and overcome life challenges.
