Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Foor.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
To me, Martial Arts is an epic, mysterious adventure filled with excitement, challenges, secret knowledge, deep meaning, and purpose. I have been drawn to martial arts all of my life and have been involved in The Way for over 4 decades. I have had many excellent teachers and experiences during my life in martial arts, but my REAL journey began when I met Grandmaster Choe. Under the guidance of Grandmaster Choe, I have been able to experience martial arts as a student, friend, brother, competitor, champion, teacher, leader, and master. Grandmaster’s ChungMu HapKiDo is a complete path, providing the ways and means for full development of body, mind, and spirit.
Personally, the greatest joys in martial arts are helping others and witnessing the positive changes in students’ lives. The friendship and community that makes this powerful change possible is a living treasure. The respect in HapKiDo forges relationships with a level of consideration and regard that is rarely found elsewhere.
My life at Choe’s HapKiDo in Duluth, Georgia, has come full circle with my 2 sons enjoying their own journey in ChungMu HapKiDo. Martial Arts is a true force of good in the world, and it is an honor and blessing to be part of it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The benefits have always far outweighed the sacrifices; however, it’s not always easy. To be successful, you have to have a faithfulness of purpose. The larger goals of serving the community must often be put before your own personal desires for time and leisure. You are accountable for your success or failure. Dedication and perseverance are essential.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Many people are fascinated and at once intimidated by the martial arts. I believe one of our strengths is showing people that martial arts is accessible for all ages and bodies. Martial arts is not about fighting. It’s about developing yourself in body, mind and spirit. At Choe’s HapKiDo of Duluth we pride ourselves in making sure that anyone who is interested in martial arts has every opportunity to enjoy the benefits.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I hearken back to the phrase, “faithfulness of purpose”. Truly, where there is a will, there is a way. Most of al,l I would credit the power of love and friendship to see us through difficult times. Additionally, I would add that you have to be flexible and open-minded to ride the waves of change and find comfort in the uncomfortable.
