Hi Sierra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with photography started because of my daughter. I had my daughter Tenzin (Gray) almost 12 years ago and couldn’t see myself sending her to daycare. I told myself I had to find a way to make money to provide for my family while being able to care for her myself. I purchased my first camera, a Nikon D40, a few months after she was born off Craigslist, and the rest is her-story😉 Photography was also a passion of my mothers, and one of my favorite pass times was when the family would get together and look at all her scrapbooks of the photos she took and printed. It’s incredible to me how a photo can take you back to that very moment, and you can feel the emotion within it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running your own business in itself has its ups and downs. It’s not a biweekly paycheck that you can always count on. You have to put the work in, you have to network; you have to have an amazing portfolio. There are some PROFITABLE/ FRUITFUL months, and there are some dryyyyyy months. But you have to be able to roll with the punches and bet on you… EVERY TIME. You have to believe in you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Leone and Gray?
Leone + Gray is the name of my business, and it stems from my daughter and I’s middle names.
Leone + Gray is a lifestyle photography business. I specialize in Lifestyle Branding + Family sessions. My goal with every session is to capture my clients as they are. I love raw and candid captures + moments. You won’t always be looking at the camera perfectly, but the image will represent you + your family at your best, in its natural and beautiful state.
I would have to say the thing that I am most proud of when it comes to my brand is being in business for almost 12 years! What a blessing?!? My clients (turned friends + family) mean the world to me! I mean I have literally being photographing some of my clients from their engagements to their 3rd and 4th child! I feel like a part of their family and vice versa. I will always be grateful for my clients and my talent. Photography has truly changed my life.
When you book a session with me, I cherish the fact that you not only booked with me out of so many photographers in the world but the fact that you trusted me with capturing your most prized possessions, your session that will become memories passed down for a lifetime. I truly, truly LOVE what I do. Each session I service gives me all the feels as if it’s my first session all over! I genuinely enjoy not only capturing the session but going home to edit it as well! I offer 15-minute sessions all the way up to 1.5-hour sessions, and no matter which one you book, I take them all serious and provide the best service.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
As far as any mentors, I would have to say my mother. From a young age, my mom instilled life lessons into me and my siblings that actually transferred into my business owner life… A lot of how I run my business is from watching how she runs hers. She has always added personal touches and has always provided THE BEST customer service experience I have ever seen. She goes above and beyond for her clients/ customers, and I would like to think I do the same.
My little sister also has taught me a lot about business and helped with the back end of my website to help me run my business properly. She has been a successful business owner since the young age of 14, now 21.
My husband cheers me on daily and will help out when I need behind-the-scenes footage for my own social media content, and I am forever grateful for that.
My daughter, who inspired this entire movement, continues to be my motivation every day to continue doing what I love.
And I can’t forget my family, whether it’s my grandma telling her friends, my siblings referring me/ sharing and reposting my content and everything in between, I am truly blessed to have such an amazing tribe.
