Today we’d like to introduce you to Alessio Lacco. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Alessio grew up in the heart of Naples, Italy. His Nonna (Grandma) taught him how to make homemade pasta and fresh mozzarella. His aunt taught him how to make gelato at her Gelateria in south Italy.
One summer, when he was 15 years old, Alessio’s uncle needed extra help at his restaurant. He made his first pizza there, and it was love at first sight.
To improve his craft and skills, he joined his maestro (mentor) Gaetano Esposito (the grandson of Raffaele Esposito, who created the Margherita Pizza for Queen Margherita of Savoy in 1889) at L’Arte della Pizza. He was honored to learn from Esposito, who had made pizza for Popes, Prime Ministers, and celebrities.
Alessio longed to share Neapolitan pizza with the world. He moved to America and started Vomero Consulting. He helped restaurateurs launch Restaurants in New York, California, Georgia, Texas, and Indiana.
He has appeared on TV shows, news segments, newspapers, blogs, and in National Pizza Magazine.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has definitely had its share of challenges, but it’s been anything but smooth sailing. Constantly striving for improvement, facing rejection, and searching for opportunities has been the essence of the journey. It’s about persevering through setbacks, learning from failures, and always maintaining belief in oneself, even when the path ahead seems uncertain or daunting.
As you know, we’re big fans of Atlanta Pizza Truck. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Atlanta Pizza Truck brings true Neapolitan-crafted pizza and more to Atlanta, Georgia. Our master pizzaiolo, Alessio Lacco, hails from Naples, Italy, where he trained to create soft, tender crust cooked in a blistering hot 900° wood-burning oven. His oven is attached to a blue Italian Piaggio ApeCar. Alessio and Sofia create a little taste of Italy throughout Atlanta as the couple travels to bring Pizza Napoletana to private events, pop-ups, and more.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Investing in my first truck was a major risk. After a car accident left me with a total loss, I used the insurance money to buy the truck. It was a leap of faith into an uncharted territory, as no one else was pursuing similar ventures at the time. However, I’ve always believed that with great risk comes great reward. It’s about recognizing opportunities where others might not, having the courage to take a chance, and being willing to learn and adapt along the way.
