Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, I embarked on my journey in entertainment armed with a BA, an MBA, and a PMP certification. From a young age, my knack for storytelling and leadership in drama and debates during high school paved my path towards a fulfilling career in entertainment. Since 2008, I’ve accumulated over 15 years of experience, diversifying my talents across acting, hosting, scriptwriting, and even co-owning a media company, MaduxVision. After a brief hiatus to focus on family, the random but frequent opportunities to host various events reignited my passion, leading me to carve out a niche as a professional Compere under the name SeunCompere. Today, while I continue to embrace diverse roles in entertainment, my heart lies in compèring, where I connect, entertain, and create memorable moments.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the primary struggles I faced was breaking into an industry that is often male-dominated, which presented unique challenges. I had to constantly prove my worth and skill, overcoming stereotypes and biases. Additionally, working with difficult team members, like uncooperative DJs and event planners, tested my patience and resilience. There were also moments of self-doubt, especially when I was mocked or underestimated. However, these experiences only strengthened my resolve and sharpened my skills, helping me to grow stronger and more adept in my career.

As a professional Compere, I specialize in hosting a diverse range of events, from corporate gatherings and book launches to personal celebrations like weddings, bridal showers, and birthday parties. My approach is unique; I focus on creating an engaging, entertaining atmosphere that keeps the audience captivated and the event flowing smoothly. I’m known for my ability to blend humor with formality, ensuring that each event is memorable and enjoyable for all attendees.
One core principle I hold dear in my work is the belief that “the mic belongs to everybody.” This philosophy emphasizes the importance of engaging guests and encouraging crowd participation. I focus on making every attendee feel included and part of the event, which not only enhances the experience but also fosters a lively and interactive atmosphere. This approach to engagement sets my events apart, ensuring they are vibrant and memorable for all involved.
What I’m most proud of is my versatility. Not only do I thrive in front of an audience, but my background in acting, scriptwriting, and producing allows me to bring a creative and polished touch to the events I host. This breadth of experience in the entertainment industry enhances my compèring by adding depth and professionalism.
What sets me apart is my commitment to each event’s success, my meticulous preparation, and my adaptability to various audiences and settings. I strive to understand the unique needs and dynamics of each event, which enables me to personalize my approach and connect more deeply with the audience. My resilience and continued passion for my work, despite the challenges I’ve faced, also distinguish me in a competitive field.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important characteristic to my success as a Compere is adaptability. This trait is crucial in managing the dynamic and often unpredictable nature of live events. It allows me to swiftly adjust to last-minute changes, cater to diverse audiences, and handle unexpected challenges with composure and creativity. Adaptability ensures that I maintain the flow and energy of an event, regardless of the circumstances, making each gathering a success. This flexibility not only helps in delivering a seamless experience but also in building trust and reliability with clients, who can feel confident that their event is in capable hands.
