Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Van Duzer.
Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve always been an animal person. My small stuffed animal collection and Breyer horses were my pride and joy as a kid. Not to mention- the childhood dogs and cats I shared life with really made a positive impact! Every animal who has walking through my life has taught me something different – about myself and about them. As an older teen, Maple came into my life. He was a Beagle with strong opinions – rightfully so! I was confused and exasperated by his displays of aggression towards our cat, other dog and people – including me. After trying all the methods I had heard about through the grapevine and trying a consult with a punitive trainer, I was not pleased with the results. Finally, I went to the library and found a stack of books that changed my life’s trajectory! They were filled with simple and effective techniques that honored the dog for being who they were – not holding them to a standard of who anyone wished they were! I said good riddance to the old, debunked dominance theory and hello to science-backed positive reinforcement dog training.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been plenty of challenges. Learning how to change my own behavior in the beginning was an eye-opener. I’ve been through the challenges that my students experience. It’s been vital for focus on mental health and mindset. Not only for myself — also teaching my students how to manage frustration, work through troubles, and continue trusting themselves and their dogs.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With extensive dog training support, we empower owners to work through frustrations with their dog’s behaviors, addressing difficult issues such as fear, aggression, separation anxiety, and excessive barking. We cultivate harmonious relationships between dogs and their people, allowing everyone to embrace both the little moments and life’s adventures together.
Specializing in sensitive and reactive dogs, we know how strenuous it can be to live with these behaviors in your beloved furry family members. We have been where you are, which makes a world of difference when I say, “I understand. And here’s what we can do about it.”
Our bespoke method has shown undeniable effectiveness since 2015. Dog training students get one-on-one coaching, whether in-person, live online, or through video messaging. Once you’ve worked with us, you become part of the Happy Hounds And Beyond family for life!
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
It reaffirmed my long-standing belief that *connection* is the single most important piece of any relationship. We develop all our training programs with this in mind for both the people and the dogs!
