Rising Stars: Meet Dion King of Midtown, Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dion King

Hi Dion, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been creative and a hard critic of the whole “normal” thing. There isn’t even much about my life that could be considered normal. My 1st toy as a child was a fisher price DJ set given to me by my grandmother. Once they told me that, it all started to make sense. Fast forward a couple years and i’m a Pre-Teen choosing to go D.J. at house parties full of middle aged Caribbean people rather than attend parties with kids my own age. One or two more years into the future, while the other guys are at tryouts and weight training, i’m surrounded by huge groups of kids at my lunch period while i’m battle rapping other rappers for bragging rights. Look at me now. While those same guys, who’re now like brothers to me, are getting married and having kids… I’m doing magazine interviews.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think anybody’s road is ever smooth. Mines though, definitely could have used some straightening out. I’ve been everywhere from high rise condos, to the top bunk in corrections. My 1st time getting arrested, I was a little older compared to my friends that have been locked up too. I was about 19. but that year alone I got arrested 4 times, got my license suspended and violated my probation. It was like I was on tour, visiting nothing but different jails. The last time though, I had to sit there for about two months, I was facing six months but let me put you on game… You got to get you a black Judge!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Rapper, Producer and a DJ. I specialize in Rapping. I’m Known for my 2021 Mixtape “Matter Of Time”. I am most proud of the fact that the brand I created has been consistently expanding and growing and shows no signs of stopping. What sets me apart from others is my drive. I’m going to always get it done, you can put bred on that.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has played a grand total of zero percent in my life and business. I’ve worked hard at crafting myself and my brand into what it is today. But more importantly, i’ve relied on God, my family, my team and even other artists that believe in my vision. Luck is all about random favor. What I receive from the people that surround me isn’t random, It’s love.
