From the time I was young, I had a clear vision of my future—I wanted to be a lawyer. I remember dressing up for career day at school, determined to showcase my dream. My mom, however, didn’t quite know how a lawyer dressed, so she gave me a white coat, and I ended up looking more like a doctor than a lawyer. Still, I proudly told everyone about my aspiration, confident in my path.
My journey in law began at Georgia State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. While pursuing my undergraduate degree I began working as a file clerk at a boutique firm and eventually became a personal injury paralegal. I then pursued my legal studies at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. Graduating from law school was a pivotal moment, and I wasted no time diving into the practice of law. I started my first practice as soon as I received my bar results. It was called Law Offices of LeKeyia D. Reid, P.C.
The following year, I partnered with a classmate from law school. In 2014, I was asked to take a contract with the Georgia Public Defender’s Standard Council (GPDSC) as a conflict defender. Under this contract, I represented hundreds of indigent criminal defendants in the Alcovy Judicial Circuit. Understanding that everyone has a right to good counsel, I zealously advocated for individuals charged with crimes ranging from simple misdemeanors to major felonies such as murder. In six years of practice, the firm only lost one case that was taken to trial.
In 2018, after gaining invaluable experience, I decided to take a bold step and establish my own firm, Reid Law Group, in Conyers, GA. Choosing Conyers was a heartfelt decision—I grew up here, and the community means a great deal to me. I wanted to give back to the place that shaped me by providing dedicated legal services to its residents.

The journey has not been a smooth ride. As a small business owner in the personal injury field, you quickly learn that the path is filled with twists, turns, and inevitable bumps. I can attribute these challenges to five key roadblocks:
1. Realizing that not everything is within your control: In personal injury law, outcomes can depend on many factors, including court decisions, insurance companies, and client circumstances. This unpredictability can be daunting.
2. Facing times when it seems like nothing is working: There are cases that don’t go as planned, strategies that fall flat, and moments when progress feels stagnant. It’s crucial to stay resilient during these times.
3. Managing people can be difficult: Building a dedicated team of legal professionals who are aligned with the firm’s values and goals is challenging. Ensuring that everyone is motivated and working efficiently while dealing with the emotional toll of personal injury cases requires constant effort.
4. Continuing to grow in a saturated market: The personal injury field is highly competitive. Standing out and attracting clients in such a crowded space means continually innovating and providing exceptional service.
5. Ensuring we keep making money to sustain the business: Financial stability is a constant concern. Balancing case expenses, operational costs, and ensuring fair compensation for the team while striving to deliver justice for our clients is a delicate balancing act.
These challenges can appear all at once or come and go, but they are constant battles. You learn to adjust, restructure, and try again when things don’t go your way. The most important lesson, however, is to keep going.

I am always assessing my roadblocks and seeking ways to ease the pain points.
