Life & Work with Megan Ritchie of Cumming

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Ritchie.

Megan Ritchie

Megan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2020, I signed up for a microblading course hoping to create a new career path for myself. I ended up falling in love with permanent makeup and picked up on the art rather quickly. By the end of the year I had opened my first salon suite and was officially in business doing brows.

I was one of the first permanent makeup artists in Forsyth County, so it didn’t take long before my services were in demand. I spent the next few years building my clientele, continuing my education, and perfecting my craft before deciding it was time to grow my business. In 2023 I began teaching PMU, started offering more services, and moved into a larger studio.

What was once known as Brow Baby has evolved into Fine and Feral Cosmetic Studio and proudly earned the titles of Best Permanent Makeup Studio in “Best of Forsyth” (2022-2024), “Best of Georgia” (2023-2024) and “My Cumming Magazine” (2024).

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Despite starting my business during the pandemic, I can honestly say that my journey has been a smooth one. I think that if you genuinely love what you do, the challenges that come with owning a business seem small.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently offer permanent makeup services such as Nano Hair-strokes, Ombre/Powder Brows, and Lip Blush.

While many associate permanent brows with “microblading”, I actually don’t offer that technique. Instead, I specialize in Nano which is much like fine-line tattooing. With this technique more realistic hair-strokes can be drawn, it works for even oily and mature skin types, is nearly painless, and doesn’t involve slicing the skin open.

At Fine and Feral, we work by appointment only and value our private settings. Every client receives custom service, as we believe there’s no room for cookie cutter options in the beauty industry.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
It’s okay not to fit the mold. When I first started in PMU I often compared myself to other artists and tried to adjust my aesthetic to what I believed would attract more clients. Not long into my career, I discovered that allowing my brand to reflect my true self not only made my work environment more comfortable but this also attracted clients with a similar vibe.
