Today we’d like to introduce you to Destinee Muldrow.
Hi Destinee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Yes, so back in 2020 I was preparing to graduate college “Go Wolves!” and one of my last projects for my business class was to write up a business plan for an imaginary business. Little did I know, I was writing a plan for a business I was actually going to start. After I graduated a week later my grandmother passed so my family and I took a mini vacation to the beach to clear our heads after we laid her to rest. And as I’m sitting on the balcony of our condo I had a vision of what eventually became my brand. I shared it with my family and they helped me through the process of coming up with a name, design and getting it all trademarked. After speaking and meeting with my Trademark Lawyer, it took me about a year and a half to get it officially trade mark. My Vision had come to life. I named my brand Jesus Avenue, its a Christian based brand and it is streetwear that express the season that I was in. So, I started releasing things from caps, shirts, hoodies, you name it. And like all businesses we came to a place where we were slow in business and not getting the exposure we hoped for. But, we kept pushing and kept coming up with ideas to get ourselves out there.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. I think the challenge for me was and still currently is is the exposure. Getting the brand out there and sharing my story of how it all happen. Slowly I am learning different ways of overcoming it and trying out different strategies.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Besides being a business owner, I am pursuing a career in management where I received my BA in from the University of West Georgia. I am the Manager of Operations at my local answering service. Among my career and receiving my degree, I am most proud of the person and woman I have become. I am a very devout person who just simply loves people, and always extending a helping hand to everyone. I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to believe and motivate others. I feel like my life itself has been a representation of who I am and the God I trust in.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Ooooo, great question. The advice that I have is to take your time. I know for a lot of business owners there is excitement in starting the business and visioning how it will look and how you would make things work. But the master plan is in the planning itself. Taking your time to write down the vision, write down the idea, write down ways you would like to pursue it. And also leave space for a challenge and a downfall. It happens to many people but the best response is in how you bounce back. Don’t give up and dont be afraid to step out there, just make sure you have prepared yourself and the idea first.
