Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexia Boukou
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2021, after experiencing postpartum depression, I created Lexi Nails & Beauty. With twin boys and no family around, practicing self-care became essential. Doing my nails and changing them every other day was my way of prioritizing my well-being. Friends started noticing and appreciating my nails whenever they visited. This practice of self-care led me to where I am now. I’m grateful for the supportive community I built, thanks to my friends, mentors, and all the cohorts I participated in. Their support has been invaluable in my journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to building my business was not smooth at all. I faced many challenges, especially because I wore many different hats. When I started Lexi Nails & Beauty, I wasn’t working a full-time job, so there was no income coming in. I only had my savings and two clients I was helping with their social media. I didn’t have the income to hire anyone.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lexi Nails and Beauty?
Lexi Nails & Beauty is a black owned business where the art of self-care meets the convenience of handmade press-on nails. We are dedicated to revolutionizing the way women pamper themselves by providing a range of customizable and meticulously crafted press-on nails. Our mission is simple: to help our customers save money, time, and prioritize their well-being, all while experiencing a blissful spa-like indulgence in the comfort of their own homes.
At Lexi Nails & Beauty, we understand the demands and challenges faced by busy women, mothers, and the vibrant Gen Z generation. Balancing multiple responsibilities and keeping up with the fast pace of modern life often leaves little time for self-care. That’s why we have created a solution that not only caters to their needs but also elevates their sense of style and confidence.
We offer reusable nails which cost between $30 and $45 depending on the design you choose. They can also be customized based on your outfit, mood or piece of art. At Lexi Nails & Beauty, we are more than just a nail brand – we are a catalyst for self-expression, confidence, and well-deserved moments of indulgence.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
As a first-time business owner during the pandemic, I learned several important lessons that have shaped Lexi Nails & Beauty. First, the importance of flexibility and adaptability was paramount. Starting my business at the end of 2021, after going through postpartum depression, I had to quickly adjust to the uncertainties and challenges posed by COVID-19. I serve women who don’t like or don’t have time to go to the nail salon, creating custom sets based on their preferences and needs. It became clear that serving clients where they are was essential, as we didn’t know when the pandemic would end or if there would be more lockdowns. Additionally, the value of community and support networks proved invaluable. It was important for me to maintain a strong relationship with my customers and understand their needs .
