Today we’d like to introduce you to Mika Burroughs
Hi Mika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out in college where I got into powerlifting and bodybuilding. I graduated with a Degree in Information Technology, but because I fell in love with health and fitness, I knew it wasn’t something that I would be spending my entire life doing as a career. After graduating from Georgia Southern University in 2019, I worked full time in Cyber Security for almost two years, when I received a job as a personal trainer for Crunch Fitness. I didn’t think my technology career would be so short lived, but I was happy to move on so quickly and begin what would hopefully be my livelihood. While I began to build my clientele, I stepped on stage for my first bodybuilding competition on November 11th, 2021 at the Lee Haney Games here in Atlanta. That was the beginning of my competitive bodybuilding career. I am working towards getting my IFBB Pro card and creating a livelihood in the sport of bodybuilding, as well as coaching others who wish to follow that same path. Fast forward to today, I have been working as a personal trainer for almost four years now as well as building my competitive bodybuilding/online coaching team, Steady Hustle. I’m currently coaching three competitive bodybuilders, one of them who will be competing in the NPC Jr. Nationals competition on June 22nd, 2024. This will be my first ever national competitor and I’m striving to help others reach that level and more. My fitness journey has not only allowed me to create a career in something I love. But I have connected with so many people who share that same passion and drive for health and fitness and bodybuilding, which I personally believe to be the greatest part of my journey so far.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to where I am today was and still is rough and rugged. But it hasn’t nor will it stop me. For instance, after my first show in 2021. I went through I rough financial stretch which delayed my return to the stage and my ability to properly prepare for nationals. To my disliking, I was forced to take a much longer time off from competing to get myself back in financial shape. Even so, I still trained with an obsession for success and did everything I could to keep myself in a healthy physical, mental, and financial state. Now, in 2024, I will be competing in the 2024 ATL All-Natural Championships. I will achieve my national qualification again and begin my road to IFBB Pro.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an employee at Crunch Fitness(Johns Creek Location). I’ve been a personal trainer there since September 2020 and have successfully helped many people of all types reach their fitness goals. Steady Hustle is my online coaching business where I also help people reach their fitness goals but are not near Crunch. Steady Hustle is not strictly for competitive bodybuilders. I help anyone looking to improve their health and fitness.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My parents for helping out when times got rough. As well as all of my clients, past and present, who have supported me and allowed me to live out my passion in fitness
