Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lauren & Whitfield “Murcier” Bowens.
Hi Lauren & Whitfield, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Murcier is a sibling duo group. We were both born and raised in Columbia, SC, and we started making music together in 2020 when we were both under the same roof again during the pandemic. To be fair, we’ve been around music our entire life. Our dad is a Pastor who we’d say is pretty well known in the Columbia, SC area so we have a heavy upbringing in the church and you know what that means!
We were both singing in that choir honey every Sunday for 18 years, hahaha! Whitfield is/was definitely the leader of the two of us, and he always has been since we were toddlers. Singing leads and is always ready to serenade someone with a song, lol. Both of our parents really love music, though.
Our mom grew up singing in the church and has a beautiful voice as well, so she’s definitely the person from whom we get our ability. Our dad just has a general love of all music. Even though he’s a pastor, he gets down! Lol! He’s the one who introduced us to funk, country, disco, and rock. You name it, our Dad’s musically given it a go. So, in short, our parents and singing in the church have played a huge, huge role in our lives.
Anyway, Whitfield and I have lived apart since I (Lauren) went away to college, so being under the same roof again during the Panny was fun and a time of stillness. In that period where we literally had to stay put, we started recording music together but didn’t take it seriously enough to release any of that music to the world until, I would say, 2022 or so.
We still struggle with perfectionism, so sometimes it’s hard for us to release projects that we’re 100% happy with, you know? But art is made to be shared, so this year is all about doing our best to share our music with anyone who wants to go on this journey with us.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We think there are always struggles to chase dreams, right?
The struggles mainly come in the form of cash money, haha! But both of us are really big on keeping that daytime lol positive energy, affirming manifestations, and prayer that our needs are always met and honestly, through the ups and downs, God has never failed us.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Whitfield in true Capricorn fashion is a jack of all trades! He works in the Air Force as a Crew chief. He also is a choir director at our home church. A head tennis coach of both girl and boys high school tennis teams. He owns homes for AirBnb hmmm what else lol! He offers private tennis lessons as well as is in two other bands outside of Murcier just for fun.
Damn, I sound lazy compared to my brother, but the corporate life is sucking your girl DRY! Lauren is currently working as a Concept Designer in the flooring industry out of Atlanta, and she is scratching and surviving outside of work, lol!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
To be honest, neither of us really believe in luck. We both believe in energy, and the kind of energy you put out will come back to you. We know we know so hippy-dippy, hahaha! But we believe that whatever energy you put into something is what you can expect to get out of it.
