Inspiring Conversations with Brad Robinson of Bradford Custom Homes & Remodeling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Robinson

Hi Brad , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, a city whose architecture and neighborhoods inspired me from a young age. My family owned a grading and hauling business, which first introduced me to the world of construction. I remember driving through some of Atlanta’s most exclusive areas with my father, marveling at the homes and dreaming of one day building such spaces on my own one day. These drives ignited my passion for home building.
In my youth, I learned to drive a dump truck on the Hartsfield Atlanta runway, which was both educational and thrilling. My career in the building industry began with a painting and home renovations company that I started. This venture allowed me to work closely with up to 25 custom home builders, significantly enriching my knowledge and passion for building design and construction.
After selling my first company in 2014, I dove deeper into design, working with some of the best retailers in the industry, including Home Depot. A pivotal figure in my journey was Sarmista Boal, Home Depot’s longest-tenured interior designer, who also designed the personal homes of several Home Depot executives. Sarmista played a crucial role as my mentor, instilling in me the confidence to pursue my dreams in the building industry. Fueled by this inspiration and experience, I launched Bradford Custom Homes & Remodeling in 2018. My goal was to create beautiful, personalized living spaces. The journey has been one of hard work, learning, and unyielding dedication to quality and client satisfaction. Today, my company stands as a testament to my passion for building and remodeling homes, rooted in the community I’ve always loved.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Certainly not. The journey has been filled with challenges, each serving as a lesson in resilience and adaptability. Navigating the volatile market conditions through the Great Recession and the COVID-19 pandemic presented significant hardships. These experiences taught me valuable lessons about entrepreneurship, for which I am grateful.
Although finding success in the corporate world came more naturally to me, the transition from employee to entrepreneur did come with a learning curve. Thankfully, understanding how scaled businesses operate provided me with crucial insights that I applied to my venture, enhancing its growth.
Constant learning from mistakes has not only made me a better builder but also a stronger leader. These experiences have equipped me to venture into high-performance building and the luxury home market with a foundation of both knowledge and experience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bradford Custom Homes & Remodeling specializes in designing and building what many of our clients consider their “forever homes.” As a design-build firm, we excel at aligning our designs with our clients’ desires while staying within their budget. Our team includes a full-time in-house architect and interior designer who expertly infuse luxury and value into every aspect of a home. We are committed to sustainability and responsibility; our homes are engineered to perform efficiently and with minimal environmental impact.
Our design process is tailored to fit the unique lifestyles and personalities of each homeowner, regardless of their life stage. We pride ourselves on thoughtful design and versatile construction methods that meet diverse needs. A standout project for us involved two young professionals looking to expand their small home in Buckhead. Collaborating with a top architect and one of Atlanta’s finest designers, we added 6,000 square feet to their 1960s layout, transforming it into a 10,000 square-foot traditional masterpiece that now accommodates hosting, living, and growing.
What sets us apart is our commitment to creating not just houses, but homes that are a true reflection of the people who live in them. I am most proud of the dedicated team we have built along the way—it’s just the beginning for us. I want our readers to know that Bradford Custom Homes & Remodeling isn’t just about building homes; we’re about creating environments where life’s moments are cherished and celebrated.

How do you think about luck?
In both my personal life and business at Bradford Custom Homes & Remodeling, I wouldn’t say our success has been a result of luck, but rather the outcome of persistent dedication and hard work. While we’ve certainly encountered timely opportunities, it’s our unwavering grit and determination that have truly driven our achievements. As Thomas Jefferson famously said, “I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” This reflects our journey, where strong client relationships and meticulously constructed projects have been pivotal to our growth.
Challenges and setbacks have undoubtedly tested our resilience and adaptability. But it is our steadfast commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and continuous innovation that has allowed us to navigate these hurdles effectively. This dedication has enabled us to not only survive but thrive in the competitive arena of custom home building and remodeling. Our story is one of turning every stone and seizing every opportunity to better serve our clients and deliver excellence, no matter the circumstances.
