Life & Work with Jaysa King of Gainesville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaysa King

Hi Jaysa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am from San Bernardino, CA where I was raised by my mother alongside my two siblings. Throughout my life I moved from state to state as my mother searched for a stable home for us. In this journey I was able to experience a large scale of people and lessons. By 2012 we settled here in Georgia. By this time, I was new but also familiar with the area and I even had a few friends considering we lived here years prior. Although I have had new starts, my story had not begun until around 2016. During this time, I was a growing young woman not only learning more about myself within my feminine energy, but I was also learning the importance of being able to follow my own dreams. I spent most of my high school career so focused on fulfilling the “suitable dream” that I missed out on what was calling me. I was a writer. I learned how to express myself and become self awareness through the writing of my poetry my entire high school career. This led me to post snippets here and there on Facebook as a way to share my wisdom. After about a year, someone gave me guidance that would change my life, “publish your work”. Simple, I know. However, being this ambitious but also impulsive young lady, I did just that. One book turned into two, and two books turned into a business. I began in the entrepreneur world with my first LLC, Cleo with a Z. I had an obsession with Cleopatra and her mystery story that I found a passion behind being someone that used their power of femininity and skill to create a platform that provides wealth and insight. I spent a few years following the trends and allowing my greed to blind me from my vision. I ended Cleo with a Z and took time to refocus and learn who I needed to become in order to provide the best possible organization for my audience. My story was long during this time, it took a lot of mistakes. After a few years of research, marriage and divorce, remarriage, a child and move, I finally found my place. In 2023, I started my now national organization, Audacity of Women. My organization is made by women with the intent to create events, mental health focused products, commentary podcasts and sisterhood groups for every kind of woman. I have also had the privilege of creating the means for a non-profit geared toward education curriculum and parent involvement. My story did not begin with the answers or even come together quickly, it was hard and rewarding.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road was not smooth at all. When I began, I was in college printing my books in the students printing center. I worked two jobs with a full schedule and still found time to network and work on my business. Going to college allowed me to create relationships that later supported my craft through marketing skills, team building and honest feedback. After graduation, I was married to my first husband that was a police officer. During this time we faced obstacles such as a lack of understanding when it came to the importance of my business and the time it took to maintain it. I was supported financially by my husband and from time to time if the interest was not there, my business endeavors suffered. However, that didn’t stop me. By the time I left my first husband, my business was beginning to pick up. I would go to pop up shops in Atlanta almost every month to get my name out there. Although, when you are going from being co-dependent to independent, finances will stop everything. For the next two years I put my business on hold, to the point I was no longer a business people knew. I stepped into my career as a teacher, I gained my Master’s in Elementary Education and met my amazing current husband. We enjoyed life for awhile, I learned so much about my dreams and what was next, only to get pregnant at the height of my career. With being pregnant I was no longer able to work. It got to the point where I had to stop…again. My husband and I moved to Gainesville, GA where I became a housewife and mother full time. I felt defeated and invaluable. I gave up all of my dreams because I kept running into moments where I wasn’t capable to supporting my vision. Until one day, someone asked if Cleo with a Z was still interested in making an appearance at a local event. I took some time to rebrand and came back out as Audacity of Women. Ever since we have done nothing but grow.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I dabble in quite a bit. My work consist of event hosting, podcast interviewing, mental health products, curriculum development, author, organization collaboration and parent involvement programs. I specialize in event hosting across both of my organizations as that is how we connect with the community, whether it is in person or virtually. However, I am known for my presence within the podcast community. I have consistently hosted my podcast, Just Jaysa for the past four years as I discuss Mental Health, Marriage, Femininity, and Confidence Building. These experiences along with my passion for assisting women on their entrepreneur journeys enticed me to expand into interview style podcasting with my segments, SheEO Talk and Contrary to the Culture. These podcasts have become my way of bridging the gap within the community whether that is for entrepreneur resources or to open the floor to specific topics about our community and our habits as a whole. Out of everything I have established through the years, I am most proud of my soon to be non profit, KMS Education. In August 2024, I will be launching my non profit to assist with education curriculum and parent involvement. This project has been special to me because of the challenges I faced while in school, the issues I observed while working in the school system, but most importantly what I wish to achieve for my son. My organization will bring many of my visions for the community to life as it focuses on relationship building and student individuality. I have been through so much in life, some that hasn’t been shared publicly, but with everything I have to offer I pride myself on always being me. I promote the behavior of always having the Audacity to be your most original self no matter what that may look like. I allow people to enter my space and speak of their journeys without judgment and fear of theft or wasted time. I am the friend that will always listen and business partner that will fight tooth and nail for their success. That is what will always set me apart from others as long as I am running my organizations.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I am a Cali Girl! I have lived in Georgia for the majority of my life but I will always hold California in my heart. Although, Georgia has brought me so close to my culture and personality that I would not want to be anywhere else. Atlanta is fun, fast paced, innovative and free. I love how no matter where you go in the state, in the nation, you can come here and find at least three people that you have met along the way or find an open door for your next adventure. I will always despise the traffic, parking and limit of cold days but here is home for me. I have met the love of my life who was born and raised here and now I will raise my son here to be exposed to the beauty of this city and all it has to offer.
