Today, we’d like to introduce you to Trini Quinn.
Hi Trini, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Trini, but you may know me better by my brand name, The Asylum Countess. I have been an artist my entire life, always scribbling away in my sketchbook, painting and creating miniature fantasy realms in my mind.
After many years of trying to deny myself the option of the arts as a career path, I finally made connections that showed me that not just a career in the arts—but to be an artist—an illustrator, a painter—could actually happen for me! My brand has been in operation for about seven years, and I am so passionate about my work that I couldn’t be happier.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. If anyone tells you differently, they’re selling something! With artists especially, finances, doubters, and nay-sayers can certainly get in the way of your dreams… the horrors persist, but so do I!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in the fine line between horror and whimsy with my work. Often, you will find bright colors with spooky-surreal subject matter. Lately, I have been experimenting with sculpting mannequin busts to create monster girls.
I think my experience within the haunt industry helps set my work apart from others. The devil is in the details, and the tricks of the haunt industry trade have given my work an extra layer of unsettling creep factor!
What are your plans for the future?
After my adventures with Midwest Haunter’s Convention earlier last month, I am wrapping up last-minute projects for my next show with Trackside Tavern on July 21st in Atlanta, GA!
