Conversations with Derek Lindsey JD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Lindsey JD

Hi Derek , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been living in Metro Atlanta for 8 years. I am a proud alumnus of Morehouse College and University of Maryland Law….I embarked on a diverse entrepreneurial journey at the age of 25. After graduating from law school, I worked as a community organizer in Baltimore for the Department of Justice. This experience led me to become the Judicial Affairs Director at Coppin State University. During my time at Coppin State, I recognized the need for more personalized student development.

In 2013, I took a significant step by founding an education company called Camp Community. This eight-week summer camp aimed to teach community development skills and provided participants with paid summer jobs as an incentive. Additionally, I authored 14 homeschool curricula and courses, showcasing my dedication to education.

In 2017, I joined the Fast Mentoring & Tutoring team, initially as a tutor, and quickly progressed to roles such as manager and marketing director. Finally, in 2021, I reached the pinnacle of my journey by becoming the CEO of Fast Mentoring. As the CEO, I lead a full-service educational support company that offers virtual tutoring, standardized test support, mentoring, and executive functioning support for families. We have served over 200,000 hours of educational support for students of all ages and have 50 years of experience on our team. In addition, we provide after-school curriculum options, ensuring comprehensive educational assistance for our clients. FAST stands for Focused Achievement Starts Today and we have used this mantra as a business to provide support and success to families in the Atlanta Metro Community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our challenges are the changes in education that occur from year to year. Our biggest struggle was transforming from an in person company to a virtual tutoring company during the pandemic. This challenge allowed us to modify our business model and recruit tutors from all around the world and work with students all around the world. Please give us a call to discuss your educational needs (404)547-6861.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We tutor and mentor students at elite private educational institutions. We help families invest in the academic success of their children’s futures.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Happy families and students and inspired tutors….
