Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Tarsha May
Hi Jada, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Funny enough, I grew up wanting to be in the medical field. However, looking back, a big part of me has always been very creative, but I never imagined I could build a career out of it. It wasn’t until I was in the middle of pursuing my Psychology degree that businesses began enquiring about the logos I posted on social media as a hobby. I realised then, “This could be my full-time career.” After graduating from university, I knew that this path wasn’t for me. Thanks to my faith and support system pushing me to pursue my creative side, I’ve never looked back.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Being an entrepreneur, especially in the creative field, comes with it’s share of trials and tribulations. One major hurdle I’ve faced is that the importance of brand design often goes unnoticed. Many entrepreneurs see it as an expense rather than an investment, and proving the value of my work through social media can be quite challenging. It’s particularly tough to explain this to new and small businesses. However, I’ve noticed that when more established businesses approach me for a rebrand, they already have an understanding of how I can help solve many of their business problems rooted in poor branding.
Branding is the face of every business and should be approached strategically. That’s why I ensure that I communicate this through my content, and the branding I create for my clients is backed by research and strategy, not just aesthetics.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m the face behind Tarsha May FX, specialising in brand and packaging design for product-based businesses, with plans to expand into web design services soon. What sets me apart in the industry is my diverse style. I don’t believe in sticking to one design approach because each business I work with is unique, with its own values, goals, and personality. This ensures that my clients are confident I can deliver exactly what they envision and more. I prioritise creating standout, memorable brands through effective collaboration, balancing my client’s preferences with elements that will attract their target audience.
Leveraging my background in psychology, I design brands that connect authentically with their target audience, drive return customers, and help businesses stand out in their market. Designing with human behaviour in mind is my superpower. I deeply understand human behaviour and use that knowledge to guide my design decisions. Combining this with strategy and market research, I create effective brand identities.
Many entrepreneurs don’t realise how much human behaviour influences a customer’s decision to buy a product. I make that decision easier by ensuring the branding I create is consistent, eye-catching, memorable, and authentic to that business.
Being from the UK, I’m most proud of working with clients across the globe. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that my skills and creativity are being recognised and chosen by people worldwide.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a child, I was always eager to try new things. Whether it was picking up a new hobby, interest, or creative project. From being a hair colourist to working as a health care assistant, and eventually earning a degree in psychology. This characteristic, I felt played a big part in leading me to my current career as a Brand Designer. But, one thing I can say is creativity has been the most consistent thing throughout my life and will always be such a huge passion of mine.
