Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Benson
Hi Jenn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2010, Jenn left medical device sales to pursue her entrepreneurial passion as a personal trainer. She started Travel 2U Fitness, a traveling personal training and health consulting business in NY where she lived. Her experience with clients over the years led her down the path to studying behavior change, inclusive exercise, integrative nutrition, and eventually getting her National Board Certification in Health & Wellness Coaching.
In 2015, Jenn wrote and published her first book, Dear Couch, We’re Through! Available on Amazon and wherever books are sold.
2017, she opened and managed her own 24-hour fitness studio – ideal Fitness 24-7 in NY. She sold this in 2020 to move to Roswell with her family for her husband’s career.
After a year of online coaching, podcasting, & being the voice for various fitness apps, due to Covid :(, Jenn missed meeting with people in person and found herself getting connected with Rick Mayo, Founder of Alloy Personal Training. The model of this business was exactly what Jenn wanted. A small community that feels like family, truly customized and personal training, small groups that keep it effective, and let’s not forget, the FUN. It was a no-brainer!
Opened the doors of Alloy Personal Training West Roswell in August of 2023 and could not be happier. We continue to grow and support our local community.
Also involved in raising money and awareness for Eternal Strength – a center for young adults age 10-25 that struggle with mental health, suicidality, substance abuse, and more. This is near and dear to her due to her own struggles as a mom with a teenage son that experiences all of these things. It is a journey that feels very lonely and you need someone to give you hope. That is Eternal Strength.
Hobbies: Sprinting for the Atlanta Track Club team and representing the USA in the Masters Division of Track and Field for women age 40-44 indoor and outdoor track. Anything outdoors, hiking, boating, wake surfing, and walking her two dogs Tucker and Rufus.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As you can imagine, the struggle to open a personal training studio in August is not the easiest! Most people are away for summer and getting them in the door was a struggle. I do have to say that now that we have 100 members – we are really in the flow. It is not much of a struggle to do what we get to do every day! We are close the year mark and looking for our last 20-30 members to be at full capacity!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Alloy Personal Training we specialize in customized functional strength training for age 40+. We do have some younger members of course but our average age is about 55 years old. We deal with more specific conditions that are present in this demographic. Our personal training is done in groups of 6 or less and completely customized to the individual. The program was first developed in Roswell in 1992 so we have been doing this a long time and are the experts at it!
The fun environment, our ability to work around almost anything, and the community is here is what sets us apart. Our trainers have backgrounds not only in personal training but also in corrective exercise, kinesiology, cross-fit, inclusive exercise, behavior change, health coaching, integrative nutrition, mobility, and survival skills to name a few! We value diversity and are known for our non-intimidating atmosphere and educational expertise.
I am most proud of the community we have built. Our Alloy family is a caring and compassionate team that gives back to our community and is always willing to step in and help each other. Building strength is why people enter our doors, but a fun, loving community is why they stay:)
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me the most is helping people live their lives to the fullest. To empower them to realize their strength and potential. Our team jumps for joy when we watch someone who never lifted weights in their life be empowered to start. We love watching those recovering from surgery or an injury still show up and do what they can. Helping people reach goals like being able to hike the Grand Canyon is truly helping those move well and grab life by the horns. The members hold each other accountable, build friendships, and cheer each other on. It is amazing to be part of that journey and that is why I get up in the morning.
