Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Fields.
Hi Jared, We’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. Before we get into specifics, could you briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Jared C. Fields graduated from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in economics. He also possesses a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Arizona, Global Campus. He is originally from Riviera Beach, Florida.
Community Service has been embedded in his soul since middle school when he was working on election campaigns for the mayor of his hometown. His desire and love of being a public servant continued to grow from that point as he marched with the late great comedian and activist Dick Gregory to address institutional racism. He brings years of leadership experience from professional, social, and civic organizations, including Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. He is also the Past President of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators Metro Atlanta Chapter and the Emerging 100 of the 100 Black Men of South Metro Atlanta. Jared is the chairman of the Mirror 100 Mentor Program for the 100 Black Men of South Metro Atlanta.
Fields currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, where he works in IT Procurement. He is also an Amazon Best-Selling Author, supply chain professional, and Non-Profit Board Member. As a dedicated public servant, Fields regularly speaks on the topic of mental health awareness. Under the Honorable Mayor Kasim Reed’s administration, Jared was recognized as one of the top employees in the Department of Public Works for the City of Atlanta. Lastly, Jared received several notable recognitions for his work in the community. He was featured in several online publications, including Voyage ATL, Canvas Rebel, and Black Men Succeed Magazine as one of the Top 100 Black Men to Know. He was recognized as one of the top public servants in the Metro Atlanta Area by the Young Government Leaders of Atlanta and was one of the recipients of their 40 under 40 award. Fields has also been hailed as a 40 Under 40 honoree by his beloved illustrious Alma Mater, College of Love and Charity Thee, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, the road has not been smooth. I lost my father at the young age of 10, so I had to lean on role models, male family figures, and mentors to help keep me on the right path. I was not the perfect student in high school or college. I failed classes and worked full-time as a Store Manager while attending FAMU. I experienced loss and trauma throughout my life, but I decided to persevere and strive to be the man that I was born to be. My life path to get where I am today was rough and rugged. Therefore, I am determined to pay it forward so that the individuals following my footsteps can avoid the hardships I have encountered along this journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I stay busy, so I have several things that I am currently focused on. Outside of working in IT Procurement, I am marketing my current book, “Phenomenal Men of Faith,” my public speaking platform, JCSpeaqs, and growing my consulting firm, JCA Consulting. Phenomenal Men of Faith is an all-men anthology that follows ten different Black men’s stories of receiving God’s unexpected faithfulness when they felt undeserving and uncertain. Some of the topics that they explore are drugs, alcoholism, career challenges, depression, generational curses, suicide, sexual addiction, losing family members, divorce, discrimination, waiting on God, legal woes, and gambling. During their darkest experiences, they felt God’s presence through His favor. JCSpeaqs is my public speaking platform focusing on overall male and mental wellness. Lastly, JCA Consulting offers core services, including business networking and community affairs.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The lesson I learned in life is that fear is fake. If you live your life fearfully, you will miss out on the greatness you can achieve. You must remove yourself from your comfort zone to receive your blessings from being fearless. The most successful people in life are risk-takers. You must do what others are afraid to do so that you can achieve the success that others cannot obtain.
