Daily Inspiration: Meet Jennifer and Larry Reeves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer and Larry Reeves

Hi Jennifer and Larry, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Larry and Jen are both retired military: Larry served in the Army for 27 years, Jen served in the Air Force for almost 29. Larry is from Fayetteville, and his sister and brother-in-law live in Watkinsville, so retiring in Georgia was a great option. Plus, Larry is a life-long UGA fan, so Athens was a great choice. Back when they met in 2011, Jen introduced Larry to CrossFit. He easily fell in love with this modality of exercise and within a couple years had been trained as a coach. From that point, as he and Jen moved around the country due to their military assignments, they both participated in, and Larry coached in many CrossFit gyms. Earlier this year, the opportunity to buy CrossFit Liberate presented itself and they jumped at the chance. While they’re both still employed in other endeavors, owning a small business has always been a dream for Jen, and running a CrossFit gym, a dream for Larry. Despite the fact that both of them have a respectable number of medical issues, CrossFit keeps them moving and the CrossFit Liberate Family keeps them involved!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The gym had been struggling since long before they bought it. With the seasonal nature of many of the clients, mostly being associated with the University, Jen and Larry are working hard to expand the clientele and the offerings to attract more folks into the CrossFit Liberate family! As new small business owners, Jen and Larry found professional mentoring to help them through the transition and to get them and the business on the path to self sustainment!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are really proud of the fitness community we are creating in CrossFit Liberate. We have members from so many different quarters of life! And we embrace everyone. We have athletes who are just beginning a weight loss and fitness journey and athletes who make it to the quarter finals of the National-level CrossFit Games. We welcome students, professionals, parents, both stay-at-home and working. Plus we have a CrossFit Kids program and are working on putting together a Legends program to get our senior folks out and about and working their bodies! We offer free on-site babysitting to help with any obstacles for those folks on their fitness journeys. We have plenty of international members, diversity in race, gender, and sexual orientation. We support and encourage our educators, our veterans, our first responders, and everyone just trying to make it in life! So many friendships have started in our gym, heck CrossFit Liberate is responsible for a recent marriage of two members who started out as strangers. We embrace what makes everyone special, and then travel together along our health and fitness journeys.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
