Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrie Bennett.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have love seeing new sites. I picked up a point and shoot camera and started taking pictures where I went of me and family. One day daughter tired out for a modeling agency, they wanted pictures. So, I took them, even though they didn’t choose her, they told her the pictures where great. I was told by several people I have great eye for pictures but I never really had funds for a better camera. I was talking to a photographer I was taking care of in hospital and she told me how I can get camera on credit and I did and I out grew the camera in a year.
Please tell us about your art.
I take pictures of places I go, people I see, families, weddings and events too. What inspires me is life itself, most don’t really look around and see around them and see the magic of a place. I see how I can put someone into a spot and make it seem like magic. I hope people can see my vision of a picture when they look at it. I love culture and I hope to someday capture someone from all walks of life. I want people to know where I been by looking at my pictures.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
The financial challenges are buying gear and sometimes not making enough to pay for it or the repairs that happens if it breaks or gets stolen. My advice is buy what you can afford, practice from it till you get really good with it, save money and upgrade little at time. But if it a hobby and you not wanting to make money from it buy what you can afford and work with what you have.
