Tamika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It’s interesting—I never imagined becoming an entrepreneur, but my strong work ethic, keen observation, and innate desire to help others laid the groundwork for it. When my father unexpectedly passed away when I was 13, I began to deeply appreciate the value of relationships, both romantic and platonic. I cherish my family, friends, and even building connections with new people.
Years later, when I met my now-husband, we faced challenges in our relationship and noticed a lack of open discussions about relationship struggles. We realized how crucial it was to break down barriers, deepen connections, and grow as individuals for the sake of ourselves and our relationships. That’s when Couples Experience was born—an inclusive company dedicated to fostering honest conversations, sharing desires and needs, and evolving comfortably within relationships. What started as a vision has grown into relationship resources, events, retreats, and a subscription gift box. It’s funny how your own story can set the stage for your life’s work.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life is rarely a smooth road, but it’s the challenges that reveal our capabilities and possibilities. When we first launched Couples Experience, our vision was to host local couples’ events. Over time, this expanded into organizing international retreats. Let me tell you, putting up the capital for a retreat and taking risks without knowing the outcome is no small feat. Yet, we became relentless and creative to ensure we achieved our goals.
Being the face of a brand has been nerve-wracking for me too. I’ve always preferred working behind the scenes, but stepping into the spotlight has been crucial for our business growth. Now, as we navigate the future of Couples Experience, we’re noticing a shift in our audience. It’s challenging to think about potentially losing our loyal supporters, but we know that expanding our reach and serving more people is equally important. We are deeply grateful for those who continue to support us through this transition.
In the end, risk is a fundamental part of business, and it’s not for the faint of heart. Those who dare to take risks often achieve remarkable outcomes.

Creating spaces where people from diverse backgrounds come together for transparent conversations about their dreams, relationships, desires, and needs has been the most rewarding experience of my life. It’s essential to disagree respectfully, engage deeply, and share your truth in a comfortable environment. I’ve seen firsthand how this fosters open-mindedness, reduces judgment, and encourages people to embrace new experiences and challenges.
To me, that’s what life is all about, and it’s an honor to facilitate these transformative moments. Whether it’s at a pool party, a restaurant in Spain, a panel event in Atlanta, or a brunch in Seattle, we are changing lives, and that brings me the greatest joy.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a true introvert who only became extroverted around those I felt comfortable with. In those moments, I would turn into a complete goofball, which seemed to make everyone around me happy. I also loved reading, being creative—whether it was making bracelets and earrings, painting, or simply enjoying my own company.
I always thought I’d become a doctor or an artist. In a way, I’ve ended up embracing both paths, even if unofficially.
