Hi Karen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved to travel and I love to see people making their dreams come true. When I retired in 2022, I was excited to see what life had in store. I looked into becoming a travel agent and Pixie Vacations seemed to stand out as a company that valued customer satisfaction through education and experience. While I own my business, as my host company, Pixie Vacations has given me lots of training and other opportunities to learn and grow. I’m not just an order taker, I sell what I’ve actually experienced first hand. I want to make sure your vacation is tailored to your individual needs and wants. I offer you loads of help in making that decision. You are free to do as much or as little planning in your own as you like. Of course, you can book your own vacation but why not avail yourself of an expert with advice? Plus, my services are complimentary – you don’t pay me, the company does! Today I service clients going on cruises with Virgin Voyages, Royal Caribbean, Disney and more. I’m also an expert in planning trips to Disney World and Universal Studios. And I have expertise in all inclusive resorts in Mexico, Jamaica and other countries. I invest a lot of time in learning all I can about new destinations and new experiences. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think I’m a bit of a slow bloomer sometimes but I’m determined and I keep going. I found the initial training to be somewhat intense but once I got through it I began to slowly build my clientele. Most of my business comes from referrals!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One of the things that sets me apart in this industry is the fact that I like to do research. When you come to me with an idea of where you’d like to go and what you’d like to do, my mind immediately starts throwing out ideas. I get very creative in finding exactly what you want and try to give you as many choices as possible. I’m also very proud that my husband and myself, while both being over 65, love to be active and try new things! My favorite travelers are older active adults! Age is only a number, now is the time to explore and have fun!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Creativity and accessibility are very important. Plus being dependable, knowledgeable and upbeat.
