Life & Work with Imani Samone of Jacksonville, Fl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Samone

Hi Imani, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, my name is Imani Samone and I am excited to share my story with you!

As a young girl growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, I spent many weekends curled up on the couch with my mother, engrossed in episodes of America’s Next Top Model. The show’s fierce competitions and stunning photo shoots transported me to a world of beauty and creativity, a world I longed to be a part of. Among the many contestants, one model stood out to me; Eva Marcille, the winner of season 3. Eva’s poise, confidence, and undeniable beauty captivated me. I saw myself in those high-fashion photoshoots, dreaming of the day I might stand in front of the camera, embodying the same grace and elegance.
My fascination with the fashion world extended beyond the TV screen. I devoured fashion magazines, losing myself in the glossy pages filled with glamorous models and cutting-edge styles. This passion led me to enroll in cosmetology classes in high school, eager to understand the beauty industry from the inside out. I learned about makeup, hair, and the intricate details that go into creating the perfect look. However, despite my growing knowledge and enthusiasm, I kept my dream of becoming a model a closely guarded secret. The fear of failure and the pressure to conform to society’s narrow standards of beauty started to take over.
From a young age, I battled low self-esteem, a struggle exacerbated by the cruel taunts of my peers. Born with eczema and psoriasis affecting my skin and scalp, I endured relentless teasing and name-calling. The itchy, flaky, and often painful skin conditions made me feel isolated and ashamed. I tried to hide my chronic condition with layers of clothing and a myriad of excuses, suffering in silence as I fought to maintain a semblance of confidence. The insecurity was further compounded by the knowledge that I had inherited both my mother’s beauty and the very condition that plagued me.

The turning point in my life came when my family moved to Florida. The warmer climate worked wonders for my skin, and the new environment provided a fresh start. Surrounded by new and more accepting people, I began to see myself differently. Rather than allowing my skin condition to define me, I decided to embrace it as part of my unique identity. I adopted a mantra: “I have a skin condition, but the skin condition does not have me.” This shift in perspective sparked a transformation, healing me from the inside out and rekindling the light within me.
As my confidence grew, so did my determination to pursue my modeling dreams. Opportunities began to come my way, almost as if the universe had been waiting for me to be ready. My first big break came with a two-page feature in Sheen Magazine, showcasing the work of celebrity hair and nail technicians. This moment was a testament to my hard work and resilience, proving that my dreams were within reach. I continued to attract attention from notable hairstylists, music artists, clothing brands, and photographers, all of whom saw the light within me that I had once hidden away.

For me, modeling became more than just taking beautiful pictures. It became a form of art, a way to tell my story and express the depth behind the lens. I worked with local modeling agencies, gaining experience and refining my craft. Today, I proudly stand as a freelance model, independent and ever-evolving. My journey from a shy girl with low self-esteem to a confident woman chasing her dreams is a testament to my strength and perseverance.
My vision extends beyond my own career. I strive to inspire others to embrace their unique beauty and chase their dreams, regardless of societal standards or personal challenges. I want to be a beacon of hope for those who feel different, showing them that their imperfections make them extraordinary. My story is one of resilience, transformation, faith and the unyielding belief that true beauty comes from within.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been such a smooth road for me. It honestly has been a journey growing into the woman I am today. I’ve struggled with a lot of obstacles, failures & set backs along the way but I believe every challenge we face today makes us stronger for tomorrow.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Along with being an inspiring model. I also have a corporate career as a claims adjuster. Along with specializing as a hairstylists for women, men & children. I believe what sets me apart from others, is that I am a woman of faith with many talents who exemplifies authenticity. All while being a mother of 1, to a beautiful little girl, which is a blessing I am most proud of.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Great question! Taking risks starts with getting out of your comfort zone and stepping into the unknown.

From my own personal experiences, taking risks is something I have learned to live by. I live by a mantra: “No reward without risk.”

Throughout life I’ve taken so many major risks, with my personal life, opportunities, money, jobs, etc which has caused me to endure some losses and gain some wins but I also gained the most experiences and knowledge through taking risks.

Sometimes taking risks can be scary, although I have learned to over come my fears, take a leap of faith and believe that everything will work out for the better.
