Today we’d like to introduce you to Malachie Desilien
Hi Malachie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a two parent Haitian household with three older brothers and two older sisters, who supported me in everything I wanted to do. Literally my parents put me in everything. Singing lesson, piano lessons, drama lessons, dance lessons, band, Varsity cheerleading, orchestra, you name it I probably did it. As long as I can remember, I’ve always been a people’s person and loved being in front of the camera. I’m pretty sure my family noticed it too ! When I was 10 years old, my family decided to have me compete in a modeling competition, which if I won, would give me the opportunity to have a 1 year contract with a modeling agency. The only problem was, when I did win my family was unable to pay the fee to fly me to New York. Even though I wasn’t able to go, that experience really sparked my passion of being in front of the camera.
Once I got older and it was time for me to move away for college, content creation became more serious for me! My first instagram really started to get some attraction and I started getting photographers and music videographers contacting me.
I was so happy that I was getting booked. But then the unexpected happened… I got hacked and had to start from scratch. Honestly I believe that this was God steering me differently. This is where my rebranding happened. Being able to interact with an audience and collaborate with brands was the goal now. I’d do research and attend networking spaces to further expand my knowledge.
Now my platforms are growing and starting to flourish. Being my authentic self is truly what makes my brand.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly when you’re pursuing your goals I don’t think it will really be a complete smooth road to it. Starting out it can feel discouraging not getting the engagement you want or the brand collaborations but it’s about keeping your head up and being consistent. You have to see what areas you need growth in and seek out the tools to help. I don’t think people realize how much goes into content creation. It is like another job. Throughout this process I really just leaned on God to guide and lead me. My friends and family have also been such a huge support system and I am so grateful that God placed them in my life. God is the only reason why I get any of the opportunities that I have and I am so thankful. He continues to put me into rooms I never thought I’d be in and is the center of all my success in life.
I see so much growth from where I started and where I am today. Who ever I can support and help along the way, I will because I know not everyone has that! I am still growing as a content creator and still have a ways to go but I’m excited to continue on this journey! Maybe I’ll hit 10k by the end of the year.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am actually a Restaurant Manager now! Cooking is another passion of mine, which I also incorporate in my content creation. I’ve been in the kitchen since I was as young at 5 years old. I graduated from Bethune-Cookman University with a degree in Hospitality Management and a concentration in Culinary Management and Innovations. Shortly after graduating, my old job as a chef, paid for my move to ATL. This is always a surprise to people who meet me but not to the people who know me. Everyone around me knows I love to create beautiful dishes that people enjoy to eat. My end goal is to own my own fine dining Haitian restaurant !
Im mostly proud of me being a pioneer in everything I do. I am the first and only child out of my 4 siblings to graduate with my bachelors and cum laude, the first to move away from my home state a day after graduating, was able to start in the career I wanted right after college, and now a manager of a restaurant. I don’t let anything stop me from the plans God has set for me! Once he puts a vision in my head, I go for it!
I think what really sets me apart from others is God and my obedience to him. He has me look at situations through a different perspective than everyone else.
