Conversations with Yandel Omar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yandel Omar

Hi Yandel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
my name is Yandel Omar , im 19 years old and im from Puerto Rico. I was born in Aguadilla , Puerto Rico but I was raised in Arlington Texas until the age of 8. Moved back to PR since then and have been living here ever since. I’m 100% fluent in both Spanish and English. I use to love singing & was on La voz kids (the voice) 2016 when I was 10. I’ve always been into digital art since I was around 12. I started off creating hand drawn logos on my iPad for small businesses after some time I got tired of doing so and quit. I then would do cartoon logos as well and quit after a while as well. When I turned 16 I got a job at a local bakery and was making roughly about $200 a week working 40+ hours. I was going to school + working I basically had no time to do anything and then the pay was horrible on top of it so I decided to quit and just start my own business. I started making YouTube intros for influencers and would post my work on Instagram. I got noticed by some of them and started gaining a audience by doing so. I then taught myself adobe photoshop , adobe illustrator , adobe after effects & many more programs. And with the years I’ve grown my brand , my following & have worked with over 1500+ brands from all over the world. I’m now a freelance graphic designer and am also in college studying graphic design as well. Just turned 19 on July 31st and have already accomplished so many things I once dreamed of just because I did what I love to do.- @graphicsbyomar

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been amazing , it doesn’t feel like a job for me since it is something I love to do. There is times where it can be a bit overwhelming/stresfull. (Nightmare clients , creative block etc.)

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Im a full time graphic designer. I make website designs , logos . Flyers . Social media content . Motion graphics , ebooks , courses etc. I’m super proud to have been working with @boujee_barbiee for 2-3 years now and have made 100+ design projects for her.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is my family , my friends ,God & my mental health. My family is my everything! I lost my dad when I was 8 years old and my mom had to raise me and my 2 siblings (Reychel) and (Yeriel) by herself. Growing up without a dad definitely made me appreciate my mom and my family so much. It made me realize to not take anything for granted. And of course God . Without God nothing I do is possible.
