Inspiring Conversations with Bree + Luke Shackelford of Shack Photo and Film

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bree + Luke Shackelford

Hi Bree + Luke, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story is a mix of undeniable and unexpected blessings. What started as a hobby has now become one of the greatest joys that has expanded my horizon literally and figuratively.

I started my photography journey in grade school, fascinated with capturing the “everyday” beauty (and the endless selfies that comes with having sisters). Fast forward to over a decade later and that fascination has grown with the unique story that each individual holds.

I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t been one heck of a ride. Since going full-time in ’22, I got married, my husband Luke joined me as a videographer/business aficionado, we’ve taken life on the road, and have documented stories all over the country.

Which brings us to where we are today, which may not be where we are tomorrow. lol

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Long story short, no.

I’d say our journey has been quite a workout, full of learning in the valleys, dancing on the mountaintops and everything in between. But I wouldn’t change a thing.

I think my biggest struggle has been balancing the joys of my passion for photography with the stress of running a full time business. If I’m not careful, it can be easy to allow the business of photography to suck the joy out of my passion for the people, which is why I started in the very beginning.

We have to make an intentional effort to remind ourselves why we do what we do and trust that the stories we are meant to document will find their way to us. The fact of the matter is that this isn’t just about taking pictures or videos, it is about making a lasting positive impact on every individual that we have the privilege to serve.

At the end of the day, it is our faith that keeps us grounded, keeps us going, and gives us the peace to treat our business as a passion instead of a necessity.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
What sets us apart as a business is that we are a traveling husband and wife duo. This means quite a few things. We offer double the coverage. Unparalleled communication with each other. The ability to travel to any destination at any time. And so much more that comes with working alongside your partner and best friend.

However, the most important thing that sets us apart is our passion for people. This isn’t just a business for us, it is a way to meet, interact with, and pour into the people that God brings into our lives. We have met so many beautiful souls that have turned into friends through this business and we wouldn’t want it any other way. I would say that is what we are most proud of.

Currently we specialize in elopements/micro-weddings but we love to document every type of story. Each type of session offers us a unique way to connect with people and creatively document THEIR story.

What matters most to you?
This may be repetitive, but God and people. More specifically serving God BY serving the people we get to meet and doing so in every area of our lives. Including this business and our podcast @inaweandwander.
